I took full advantage of Emily being with Jared, spending a relaxing evening at home all alone and even sleeping in the following morning. It was nice to have freedom on my day off to go out and do whatever I wanted. My mom took me to brunch and then we hit the shops for a new outfit.
I made it home just after noon and patiently waited to hear from Jared. I was busy clearing out some of my old clothing from the closet when he suddenly appeared in the bedroom. I didn't even know he was there until he spoke. "You really should keep the doors locked, any psychopath could just walk in and molest you."
"Shit! You scared the hell out of me! What is it with you and all black clothing?" I snarled. Thank god I was dressed. If he would've come in a minute sooner, sneaking in like he did, he may have gotten an eyeful.
"Hello.... We are playing laser tag. You may want to change.. That white shirt will show up big time.. plus, I like the one you tried on before the white one." He pointed out with a happy smirk.
I narrowed my eyes at him, the fucker had been watching me! "Like what you saw?" I said with the slightest bit of confidence. I knew I looked good, I'd been working out a lot more lately and could feel his eyes on me. "So, where is Emily?" I asked, tossing the navy blue top onto the bed.
"She rode with Ashley and Shannon. I just figured I'd come and pick you up and we could meet them there." I waited for him to turn around before tugging the white blouse over my head and pulling the blue one on.
"And you're on time?" I glanced at my watch, stunned that he actually made an effort. "I'm impressed." He looked me up and down, giving me the thumbs up approval and I followed him down the stairs and out the house. We seemed to be getting along just fine and I couldn't help but wonder if he still had feelings for me. I wondered if he missed me like I missed him. I knew that he had moved on, dating other women, but one question nagged at me. Was I the only one stuck? Every other aspect of my life was great, but I was a little lonely.
Shannon and Ashley stood outside, swinging Emily between them while waiting on us. She raced over to greet us as we approached and stepped inside the building. Of course Em insisted on being on Shannon and Ashley's team.
"Looks like it's just me and you." Jared grinned. We chose the colors and started the game. I knew it would be interesting since Shannon and Ashley would be slowed down by Emily. I followed behind Jared and found a good spot to hide, trying not to move around too much. After a few minutes, Jared moved to another area and I could hear Emily's laughter approaching. She was having a blast and hadn't even found us yet. Jared disappeared, playfully running away from his brother. I moved, trying to avoid being spotted.
Staying crouched down, I could see the red light from across the room and knew it was Jared. He was slowly making his way back over to me. "Have you been tagged yet?" He whispered with a huge smile.
"Nope, you?" I replied.
"No, but I'm going to let Emily get me. Did you hear her get all excited when she saw me run away from Shan? My own daughter turned against me!" He tried to sound offended, but was having such a good time. He always did play well with children, hell he was one.
"You're going to sacrifice yourself? How noble." I smirked as he moved to his knees in front of me. His face was so close to mine as he looked around the base, to see if anyone was coming. The smile left my face when his lips almost touched mine as he turned back to look at me. His warm breath could be felt against my mouth and for a few brief seconds, I was thinking about that last night we were together in that bathroom at the club. God, that intense stare made me wish he would just kiss me, but unfortunately, he never did. He didn't get the chance.
They eventually found us and of course, we let them win. Emily claimed victory and Jared gave me a high five as Shannon and Ashley's first date ended with a kiss.
