Silence fell between the two of them as Savannah pushed the water around with her feet as they both sat at the edge of the pool. She didn't know where to start the conversation, wishing he would say something, anything, to break the ice. Seeing him sulking as he stared down at the water, she realized this was going to rest fully on her to fix the situation.

"I'm sorry" she said

"For what?" he asked

"What I said. The other night wasn't a mistake. I guess I just freaked out and...there's no excuse. I was wrong" she said

A smirk fell onto his face as he exhaled deeply, taking her sincere apology into the back of his mind. He believed her, but it still didn't stop his healing wound from throbbing.

"Don't lie. If you felt it was a mistake, I can't change that. I just...I guess I don't understand what's stopping you from giving me another chance?" he asked

"Well, honestly it's not just about you. I'm not ready for anyone" she said

"Right, so what about this Corey guy?" he asked

"This is why I keep trying to explain to you that he's a friend. We've seen each other face to face maybe three times since I met him. I honestly had no idea he was going to show up last night, I swear" she said

"Hmph, so I guess last night was his turn huh?" he shot back

"Wow. Now I was wrong for what I said, but don't get disrespectful. For your information, he left for the airport after the party. I spent my night alone" she said

"Yea but, he's had you before, right?" he asked

She could tell the idea alone was eating at him, realizing he was just as afraid to see her move on as she was for him. Accepting that they may not be right for each other was a lot to take in and accept, which she realized they both were finally reaching that point in their minds.

"Trey, I haven't been with another man sexually since August before we started messing around. I don't know why you think this, but I'm not big on fuckin around with just anybody. Sex is very personal to me. I can flirt and FaceTime anyone, but to create an emotional connection with someone through sex is big. Why do you think I still feel open to you?" she said

"Wow. I honestly thought by now...well I feel stupid" he chortled

"Why? You been out here thottin it up again?" she raised her eyebrow

"Honestly, no. Surprised my damn self" he said laughing, causing her to

"Hmm, well I couldn't be mad if you did. I guess I'm not ready to accept seeing you with someone else, the girls getting to know another woman, or any of that. I thought I was but I'm not" she admitted

Placing his arm over her shoulders, he pulled her close to him, kissing her forehead gently as he glanced up at her.

"You know Zoe isn't gonna let anyone take your place and you gave birth to Aubree. Nobody will ever replace you" he said

"And that goes for you too. I won't let anyone overstep their boundaries and try to replace you" she said

"I know you won't. Wow, this gotta be the most mature conversation we've ever had. Why couldn't be do this in our relationship?" he asked

"We were too busy focused on everything else except each other. Between our pasts, babies, insecurities, we just didn't understand each other like we do now" she said looking up at him

Smirking, he scooted away from the pool, helping her up before they headed back into the house. Even though they were making individual progress, it didn't mean they were ready to try their relationship just yet. They were doing so well at maintaining coexistence, they both knew that whatever was meant to be would make its way back around.
