Every morning at seven sharp, the whole house comes to life with arguing between Ashlee and Ryland, and then the sound of her cooking breakfast.
Today, nobody was awake until seven-thirty, which means someone is gonna be late to where they need to be. School is a ten-minute walk, but the path I take to avoid everyone takes fifteen. It's worth it because I would rather not deal with Ginny and her friends.
"Genevieve, get your ass out of bed!" Ashlee yells into her bedroom. I sit on my bed, already ready since I've been awake since four this morning. I don't sleep very well, so if I wake up, I can't fall back asleep. "Y/N-" The door is thrown open and Ashlee sees me sitting on the bed. "Never-mind then." She slams it back shut. Then she opens it again. "Your hair is a mess." Another slam.
I turn my attention to the covered mirror, sighing out. Oh boy, here we go.
The blanket falls from the mirror and I see the rat's nest my hair is. I have no motivation to do it though. I take a rubber band and throw it into a ponytail, giving myself a shrug and then going to cover the mirror back up.
Until I see how my clothes fit on me. They're not loose, but they're also not tight. I gained some weight, which I have to lose by the end of the week.
"You're late," Rylan grumbles as I walk down the stairs, I don't respond, especially because I know he's hungover.
He hit me a couple of times last night but, nothing I couldn't handle. I smell eggs and toast being cooked but as I said, I have to lose weight, even if I'm starving.
"Let's go, dumbass!" I hear Ginny yell from the door.
"Genevieve! No cussing in my household!" I hear Ashlee scream from the kitchen. I slightly chuckle, hiding my smile in my sweater.
"Shut up, mom, my Irene!" She scoffs. I take my water bottle from the counter and run towards the door, grabbing my bag from the hook and shutting it behind me since Ginny decided to take off.
"Y/N!" I groan and open the door again, poking my head through. "You're letting the food I cooked go to waste?"
"I'm sure Ryland will eat it, I'm not hungry." I slam the door shut behind me and then run off, taking my shortcut through the neighbors' backyards.
...
I emerge from the brush slightly covered with leaves and random twigs caught in my ponytail. It takes me a minute to pull those from my hair, along with some random spider webs. Oh, Irene, please let there be no spiders on me...
There are no spiders.
Shuddering, I shake it off and continue on my trek. But, of course, I'm interrupted.
Walking onto the sidewalk, I hear yelling. High-pitched yelling. Ivy.
"Watch where you're going you stupid potato!" She screams. A short ravenette in front of her seems frightened and confused.
"S-sorry, I-I didn't see you!" She exclaims, terrified. I drag my eyes over to Ivy to see her reaction, curious to see what happens.
"Maybe I should make sure it doesn't happen next time," She clenches her fist, my eyes slightly widen as she stares daggers into the poor girl's eyes. Okay, now I'm gonna step in.
"Hey," I walk up to them, she snaps her head over to me, and a smirk forms across her face. "Did you get bored of me already, Ivy? Finding someone new to pick on?" I gesture to the short girl.
"Stay out of this, L/N. It doesn't concern you."
"Pretty sure the moment you started yelling at my friend," I pray the girl goes along with it. "It became my business." She smirks.
