I waited for Talia at the bus stop, looking around. She is usually here around the time Grace drops me off. Maybe her mom took her? No, her mom is usually busy in tax season. And she isn't staying at her Dad's this week.

The bus pulls up and the driver opens the door. I take one long look, before getting on, glancing out the window for a sign of my only friend. She's just not there.

"Hey, Y/N." A boy, Thomas to be exact, waves at me from the seat across.

"Hey, Thomas. Have you seen Talia this morning?" I ask.

"Nope," He simply responds, I hum. He then slides into the empty next to me, meant for Talia. "I-I was wondering," I look up at him. "Would you like to go to the Winter Dance with me?" My eyes widened. Talia liked Thomas. She has had a crush on him since fourth grade.

"U-Um," I look down. "Thomas, I-" I shake my head. "I can't," He saddens. "I'm sorry but, Talia likes you and I won't betray my best friend."

"Oh," He looks down. "Okay. Sorry if I bothered you." He walks to the front of the bus, far from me. I could hear whispers from the girls sitting behind me, I didn't know at the time, but they were the girls Talia was with when she announced I wasn't her friend anymore.

"Ever wonder what life would be like if we could change the past?" Katelyn asks in Math. Finally finished the stupid homework.

"Um, your talking to a person who cries over her past." We both chuckle.

"Right. Forgot."

"But, if I could change the past. I'd probably be happier. You know, having parents who could support me and love me." I answer.

"Parents aren't like that in the system, aren't they?" She asks, I shake my head.

"If I'm lucky, I'll get parents that do care about my well-being. But, if my luck is shitty, I'll get parents who will completely ignore me. Like I'm a ghost."

"That sounds horrible!"

"You get used to it after a while." I shrug it off. She stares at me with disbelief. "What?"

"I don't understand how you just act like it's okay, you must have a lot of patience to go through things like that."

"It's not patience, it's just not caring. These people who attempt to take care of me eventually give up because they realize I'm not worth their time. I can count on one hand how many homes have actually cared about me, Katelyn. Think about that." I look down. She shakes her head, staring at her desk.

"If I could adopt you, I'd do it in a heartbeat." She finally speaks.

"Please, you wouldn't last a day." The bell rings, making me shut my binder.

"Oh! Y/N!" I hear my name being called down the hall by a high-pitcheh voice. Not Ivy's. Ginny. Crap. I grab my backpack just before she slams it closed with her foot. She smiles at me, causing me to raise my brows.
