I stare at the spoonful of cereal in my hand, debating whether or not I should eat it. I'm uncomfortable sitting down due to the fact my body is in extreme pain. My throat is sore. Best of all, I have a black eye.
"Eat." Ashlee smacks the side of my head as she walks by. I glare at the table, knowing that if I glare at her I'm going to get smacked in the face next time. "We don't save you food for nothing." She sighs, chopping up tomatoes for Ginny's sandwich I assume.
"Morning." Rylan walks into the kitchen, giving Ashlee a kiss.
"Ugh," Ginny trudges into the kitchen. "I hate school." She sits back in the chair beside me.
"Cheer up, honey. Come the weekend and you'll go to that party you've been looking forward to." I slowly chew the cereal in my mouth, feeling like I need to throw up from eating for the first time in forever.
"What's wrong with you now?" Ginny narrows her eyes at me. I shake my head, putting another spoonful in my mouth. "Since Katelyn's your friend, mind putting in a good word for the party?" I look up at her with a mad look. She merely smirks.
Rylan walks over to me and sets down an ice pack next to me, the table thudding, making me flinch.
"For your eye. Don't need anyone asking questions." He sits down. I hesitantly take it, glancing up at him as I press it to my eye. "You going to follow the rules from now on?" I quickly nod. "Good." He digs into his toast and eggs.
I take one look at them and push my bowl away, getting up out of the chair and walking to the living room, opening the front door.
"Where are you going?" Ginny calls.
"School." I swing my backpack over my shoulder and walk out the door.
"Hey!" I look across the street and see Aph, who waves at me with a smile. I wave back and bring a smile to my face, even though I'm not really feeling anything. She signals for me to come over and I shrug, what could go wrong if I walk with her to school?
"What's up?" I nod to her as I step on the sidewalk.
"You okay, you sound sick?" She asks. Irene, that's going to be a problem.
"Cold." I answer. She nods in understanding.
"So, I was texting Garroth last night and he told me he caught you running from the 'Mean Girls of PDH.' Is that where you got your black eye?" I nod. "Sorry about that." I shrug.
"High pain tolerance pros."
"I didn't know you lived on the same street as Garroth." She smiles. My eyes widen, looking over at her. She nods to the house across the street with a white picket fence, and brick exterior. "Come on, I walk to school with him." She pulls my hand. "Wait here." She lets go of me, rushing over to the door.
"Y/N?" I turn my head to the side and see a brunet walking up towards me. Laurence.. "What are you doing here?" I signal to the house as Aphmau walks down with Garroth. "Oh my Irene are you okay, babe?" Laurence touches my face, I jerk away. Nodding.
"I-I'm fine. I have a cold."
"A cold doesn't explain a black eye."
"She got it from Lily and Ivy, alright? Just leave her alone." Aph speaks up for me.
"Sorry about yesterday, Garroth." I apologize. "I didn't mean to sound harsh."
"It's alright. But we can protect you from them. They don't listen to us, but we can stop them from hurting you." He stands next to Laurence. I shrug.
"I don't like others fighting my battles."
"Wow," I hear a high pitched voice say behind me. "The pest actually found some friends." Oh Irene, here we go. I turn my head to see Ivy, Lily, Ginny, and Alex walking towards us. I fold my arms and glare at her. "Good luck with that." She pushes me as they pass by, walking off, laughing. I bump into the fence from the slight push and glare at the back of their necks.
"Hey! Why don't you-" I cut Aph off by covering her mouth so she says her cussing into my hand instead of out loud.
"It's fine, Aph, leave it be." I see her stick her tongue out and just shake my head.
"Laurence you can't hit girls." Garroth holds Laurence back. I slightly smile.
"Come on! Just one punch!" I look down at my watch and my eyes widen, I show Aph the time and our wide eyes meet.
"We're late!"
...
When we get to the school, Aph and I separate from the boys and go to our lockers. Then I separate from Aph to go to my locker.
It's Thursday morning, and everyone is excited for Friday. I put my backpack on the hook in my locker, then take out my books. I finished my homework last night but, I seem to have forgotten about my history one. That's not good.
"L/N!" I'm shoved against the locker next to me, I stare straight into the eyes of a really pissed off, Ivy. "What the hell did I tell you about hanging with him!" I stare at her wide eyes.
"W-What?" She digs her nails into my wrists.
"How many times do I need to embed it into that peanut sized mind of yours that he is mine, and only mine. If you want to challenge that," She laughs. "You're in for a world of hurt," She lets go of my wrists. "And I won't be gentle." She smirks at me.
Turning away, I hear her snicker. "So, that's it? Huh, you really are a hopeless, worthless, abandoned foster child. With parents who didn't even want to keep her." She mocks. I stop in my tracks.
Next thing I know my fist lands right where her nose is and she crumples to the ground, holding it. Around us people gasp in shock. my hands curled into fists as I stare down at her. She stares at me with shock, touching her bloodied nose with confusion.
"Congratulations, Ivy, you've made me so pissed off that I had to take the liberty and knock some sense into you," She looks back up at me. "Hope your pea-sized brain gains some brain cells because when you talk to me like that, about my past, you have no idea what the hell you're getting yourself into. The next time you try me, you, are going to be the one in for a world of hurt."
"You piece of shit!" She jumps at me. I grab her shoulders and slam her into the lockers, bringing my fist to her cheek. She nails me in the stomach and pushes me back. I block my face as she throws punches, visibly angry. "Bitch!" She nails me in the stomach again. I yelp, crumbling to the floor. She hit one of my bruises from last night.
"Stop." I breathe out. "Stop please." It's a quiet plead. I'm not even sure she heard it.
"You idiot. Fighting fights you can't even complete!"
"N-No you don't understand." I look up at her teary eyed. The pain in my stomach is explosive; too much to handle for someone who was literally beaten until they passed out. She gives me a weird look, stepping back.
"Y/N!"
"Let us through, damnit!" Aphmau and Katelyn run out from the crowd.
"Ah ah!" Lily and Ginny hold them back. I hold my stomach, breathing out painfully.
"Stand up. Stop being a coward." Ivy glares. I look up at her, slowly standing up. "Fight me. Fight me!" She lurches towards me. I dodge, running to the side.
"Ivy stop! You've hurt her enough!" Garroth appears. While she's distracted, I take my chance and knock her in the jaw. Maybe harder than I had wanted. She slides onto the floor, groaning.
"Fuck you." I breathe out. The metallic taste of blood appears in my mouth, touching my lip and feeling a gash there.
"How in the world-" I look over at Ivy and Lily, them quickly letting go of Aphmau and Katelyn. A wave of dizziness rolls through me and I lose my balance. But luckily, Garroth is already at my side, catching me. He pulls me out of the circle and down the hall, Aphmau and Katelyn running up beside us.
"You're going to pay for this, L/N!" I hear Ivy yell.
"Don't pay attention to her." Katelyn whispers. But I turn my head back anyways, staring at Ivy, Lily, and Ginny. I met eyes with Ivy and she has a look of fear in her eyes hiding behind the anger.
I look back to the front, trying to find words to say but nothing coming out. She's scared. Scared of me. Good. After today, I'm done being pushed around.
