Garroth's POV

The sound of the whistle rings through my ears as the coach calls practice. Finally. He kept us here an extra hour so that we'd be ready for the game Friday. The Spirit Game I had totally forgotten about.

I couldn't stop thinking about Laurence after lunch. It's surprising that he got mad. He's usually the nicest person I know next to Aphmau and Y/N. Plus, he hasn't spoken to me since the incident. I'm assuming because of the thing with Aphmau.

I used to like her. But not anymore. I like Y/N and I want to tell her, but I wouldn't even know how to begin.

As I stuff my water bottle into my backpack, I see Laurence across the field talking to the coach. I can tell he's exhausted. I need to talk to him before I leave. I can't go home knowing I might lose my best friend.

"Laurence!" I call his name. He turns his head towards me but looks away, quickly walking off. Frantic, I pull my bag over my shoulder and sprint towards him. "Laurence..."

"What Garroth?" He snaps, turning around. I stop. "What do you want? You want Aphmau?"

"No, Laurence what's gotten into you?" He steps closer to me, getting closer to my face.

"What's gotten into me is that I always seem to be second to my best friend! I asked Aphmau to the SnowBall and she told me she was interested in you. Not only that, but that you had kissed her at your house!" I search for words.

But I can't find any. "Come on, Gar. You're supposed to be my best friend, the one who backs me up and supports me. Not the one who goes back and kisses the girl I like. You're so full of yourself!" He huffs.

"I-I don't like her!"

"Doesn't change the fact you kissed her!" He yells. "You and Y/N belong together. Both of you are fucking selfish." My brows raise. He turns around but I grab his arm firmly.

"What do you mean? What did Y/N do?" I don't believe that girl, that is selfless as can be, is selfish. He gives me a confused look then scoffs.

"Ginny's friend Talia exposed her online Garroth. She's not who she says she is."

"What are you talking about?" I'm curious.

"Y/N also stole her best friend's crush-" he yanks his arm from my hand. "And spread rumors about the poor girl. Y/N plays the victim when really, she's not. Just like you." He spits venom and then whips his head around. He leaves me confused and full of anger.

I don't believe that. She doesn't seem like that type of person. She doesn't even express those types of characteristics. If she was narcissistic, she'd be full of herself, which she's not. If she was selfish... I would know.

This is bullshit.

Why am I even considering this? I need to get home anyways.

...

There's yelling as soon as I open the front door. Zane and Vylad going at it again, probably over something stupid.

"Give me the tv remote, Reject!" I hear Zane yell as I shut the door, walking into the kitchen.

I've learned it's best to stay out of their arguments. They can be mean when they're mad. Especially Zane when he's in a bad mood. But he's always in a bad mood so there's no difference.

I discover a note on the counter, dropping my backpack to read it.

Dear Garroth,

Your father and I have gone on an emergency business trip and unfortunately won't be able to attend your game Friday afternoon.
