Mara remained quiet as she and the boy called Riku were ushered into the center of the room by Yen Sid himself. The old mage stating that Mara must be reunited with the fragment of her heart. Which for some reason had taken shelter within the stoic man before her. The young man's confidence from prior had dissolved. Leaving nothing but a boy. A boy with a story to tell. Riku now stood face to face with Mara, now realizing that she was a few inches shorter than himself. He didnt know why, but this sliver of information made Riku crack a smile.
Mara's gaze remainef fixated on the ground, her amber orbs swirling with pain. Pain that Riku wished to rid her of. "The two of you must open yourselves to one another." Yen Sid instructed the two as for a brief moment Mara noticed Riku's hand, outstretched for her own. A small, yet comforting smile showing through the darkness Mara dwelled within. Her amber orbs flickering with the flames of life which desperately wished to be fanned.
"You..." Mara began as she hesitantly took hold of Riku's hand. A wave of warmth washing over both of them. Causing Mara to shiver slightly at the touch. Making eye contact with the handsome Riku, Mara whispered something to Riku. Her question catching Riku off guard. Mara's voice filled with so much sorrow,Riku wondered truly how much she had suffered through. And most of all, could he save her from it? "You think you can handle my pain?" Mara breathed, their fingertips pressed against one another.
As a brilliant white light erupted around their feet. Completly circling the two, encasing the two in the blinding light. Blocking the two from the view of Yen Sid, who struggled to watch the sight before him. Riku looked to Mara his cerulean orbs boring into Mara's as he spoke. "You'd be surprised at what I can handle." He commented with a confident grin, as slivers of light seemed to wrap themselves around the twos interlocked fingers. Binding Mara and Riku together for the journey of the heart they would soon be facing.
"I warn you, you will not like what you see." Mara muttered as the bright light began to pour not only from her chest but from Riku's as well. Their two hearts seeming to call out for one another, beckoning to be one. "Trust me, I'm not someone who can judge anyone." Riku assured the frazzled woman who appeared fairly desperate not to unveil her past. Almost as if she was infact ashamed of what had transpired. "Then prepare yourself."Mara whispered, her grip tightening around Riku's hand. While Mara chose to close the distance between her and Riku.
Riku's face slowly turning a shade of crimson due to her sudden advance, while he struggled to meet Mara's amber gaze. And yet when he did Riku felt it. That hard tug he had been dealing with for sometime. The desire to be near her, to understand Mara even more. Screaming loudly into the young man's ear, bidding him to succumb to Mara's heart. To open himself to her fully. Closing his eyes Riku felt as if he were falling into never-ending darkness. For not a single sliver of light could be seen from miles on end.
Riku soon found himself standing on what appeared to the a grassey hill. Taking the chance to explore his new surroundings Riku ran to the very top of the hill. Expecting to see a countryside with lush greenery and people conversing happily. But instead Riku was greeted by the shroud of darkness which covered the entire world. The world was now barren except the hill Riku stood upon, this confused him greatly until he spotted what appeared to be the "Door to Darkness" which continjed to spill out the vile creatures that were heartless into the world.
Their appearance saddening Riku as he recalled Destiny Island too being engulfed by pitch blackness. "As I said." A familar voice began, causing Riku to turn behind him to see none other than Mara herself. She quietly took a seat upon the grassy hill, her amber orbs fixated on the "Door to Darkness" her sorrow s evident in her gaze. "You would not like what you see here." Mara finished as Riku stood behind the troubled maiden, his gaze fixated on the darkness before them. Refusing to meet Riku's gaze Mara spoke her words shaky in her throat. "Welcome to Lethe, A world truly in oblivion." Mara whispered, forcing back her tears as she witnessed her world being wiped from existence once again.
In truth since that horrible night Mara had forever been plagued with memories of that night. The cries of friends, people whom she held dear. Falling to the will of darkness their hearts forcibly taken from them. While Mara remained untouched. At the time she was unsure of why she was free of the dark burden, but her question was soon answered. As the appearance of both Terra and Aqua made themselves known to Mara.
The two keyblade weilders protecting Mara from the sleuths of darkness which lashed at Mara from all sides. It was then that Mara was greeted by the new light in her life. Terra. The handsome man proped his keyblade on his right shoulder. Declaring she was safe now, but as both Mara and Riku knew. That was all just a lie. A sweet one yet but still a lie. A lie that would spark passion, pain, and lost for all those around them.
