Even though Hannah had herself reassured that Jessica meant nothing to her romantically, she still couldn't stop thinking about the night of the sleepover, and that song. She had kept listening to it over and over, as if she'd listen to it and all her problems would be solved. Of course, she still loved Clay with all her heart and no one could replace him, not even her celebrity crush Matty Healy, but she couldn't help but frantically look for answers.
One day, she went up to her mother in the store.
"Hi, Mom!", she said cheerily.
"Hi, sweetie. Are the guys still down at the house?", her mother asked her.
"Yeah, we're working on a song, I just needed some advice."
"OK, shoot away."
"So, I have this friend, and she has, like, the best boyfriend you could ask for, but recently, her best friend came back into her life. She came out as bi and she has a crush on her, which my friend is OK with, but now she's wondering if she has a small crush on her, even though she loves her boyfriend. What should she do?", Hannah asked, using hypothetical examples.
"Well, it sounds like she's in a bit of a muddle. Does she know if she's bi or anything?", her mother asked.
"At this point, she really doesn't know. And she doesn't want to lose her boyfriend and best friend because they mean everything to her.", Hannah replied, worrying every second that her mother would figure it out.
"I'd say, what she should do, is try to figure out what her sexuality is, and if the feelings for the girl grow into something more, that she should let them both know, even though it'd be risky. Telling your boyfriend and best friend that you have feelings for them both is tough stuff. But there's always the chance she could just be a bit mixed up because her friend has recently come back into her life and cane out, and she could just be really happy to have her back. Is that OK advice?", her mother said with a smile.
Hannah smiled at her and started to walk out the door.
"Thanks, Mom. She'll take it into consideration."
When the guys were gone home that evening, Hannah went up to her room and pulled out her phone. This is so stupid, she thought to herself and rolled her eyes at herself. She searched ‘am I bi quiz’. She knew full well the results wouldn't determine how she actually was, but she decided to do it for fun.
The result she got on it was ‘bisexual with opposite sex preferences ’. I think I'll put my faith in The 1975 for this one, she thought to herself. She deleted her search history and went to sleep.
The next day
The trio walked into school together, talking about music and laughing, when Bryce came up to them with his friends.
"Hannah! Jessica! I'm so happy for you two. And, if you ever need a guy in between you, you chicks know where I am.", he said with a smirk.
Jessica and Hannah froze and looked at each other.
"What are you talking about?", Hannah asked, panicking.
"Oh, c'mon, try telling me these two sweethearts aren't you guys.", Montgomery said as he showed them his phone.
It was the pictures of them kissing in the classroom and talking on the doorstep. Jessica snatched the phone from him and they looked at it in horror, while the guys laughed at them.
