1 week later
A week had passed since Clay and Hannah met and became friends. Every day after work, they would go back to Hannah's house to play music and would discuss their favourite songs and artists. They both agreed that when the next The 1975 album came out, that they'd go to the concert together. A/N: The new album only came out on the 30th of November, 2018, 2 weeks prior to the writing of this chapter. Something to make y'all sad.
On this day, Clay and Hannah were working, Clay at the ticket stand and Hannah at the counter. They were talking, and Clay asked her a question for fun.
"What's one song you've never learned how to play, but really want to?", he asked with a smile, which Hannah returned.
"Oh, definitely Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I'd probably be able to play it, with 11 years of experience, but I've never found the sheet music.", she replied, Clay hanging on her every word.
"That's a great song. I'd love to play that one as well on guitar. There might be a book with their songs in it. I have a few The 1975 chord books, so there has to be Queen ones."
"That's true. I'll let you know if I find anything."
They smiled at each other and Clay sold a couple their tickets and Hannah gave them their snacks.
After work, Hannah's house
The two were in the middle of their daily music session, and they heard a knock on the door. The two went to the door and they saw a girl around their age neither of them had seen before. She was smiling at them.
"Hi.", Hannah greeted her, smiling at her.
"Hi. My name is Jessica Davis, I just moved in across the road.", the girl greeted them with another smile.
"Well, Jennifer, nice to meet you. I'm Hannah Baker, and this is Clay. I'm new around here too.", Hannah said, introducing them to Jessica.
"Nice to meet you, Hillary and Carlton. I'll see you two in school when semester begins?", Jessica asked.
"Yeah, I'd say you will. Have a good rest of your summer, Jessica.", Clay said politely to her. She smiled at them both and she walked back over to her house.
"So, new neighbours.", Hannah said to Clay as she closed the door.
"She seems nice enough.", he replied, and they headed back into the music room.
1 week later; Hannah's birthday
When the two teenagers finished work, Clay said he had some errands to run before they went back to Hannah's house. Hannah went back home and Clay got on his bike.
He cycled out of town and arrived where he wanted. The music shop he'd gone to since he was a boy. He was trying to find something nice for Hannah's birthday, and he went over to the piano books.
One book in particular caught his eye. Bohemian Rhapsody and Other Queen Classics. He picked it up and flicked through it. It was the sheet music for the song Hannah wanted to learn, as well as for other songs like Don't Stop Me Now, We Are The Champions, Another One Bites The Dust, among others. He looked down at the price to see that it was only $10. He brought it over to the counter. He also got some gift wrap with musical notes on it. When he paid for it, he put it in his backpack.
He went over to a convenience store to buy a card. One really stuck out. It was a card with Matty Healy, frontman of The 1975, holding a yellow Labrador puppy in his arms. He picked it up immediately and brought it over to the counter to pay. He stuck it in his backpack and cycled back to his house to put everything in order.
When he had the book wrapped up, he got out the card. He wondered how to start it. Dear Hannah, To Hannah, Dearest Hannah. He eventually went with Dear Hannah, and just wrote Have a wonderful birthday in the middle, and Love from Helmet at the bottom. He tucked it inside the neon pink envelope, which resembled the latest albums aesthetic, and sellotaped it to the wrapped up book. When he had it tucked inside his backpack, he slung it over his shoulder and headed out the door over to Hannah's house.
