I moved away as it reached for me. It was the Juangrand, but somehow, it was different. It was dressed in female clothes, and not just any female clothes—they were Melissa's PJs. Wait could it be? Yes, it was; I'd recognise those eyes anywhere. After all, we have known each other since we were rug rats.
"Melissa, it's me, Octavia," I said, trying to get through to her. She grunted as she moved towards me. I moved away trying to avoid getting close as I didn't want to hurt her, but I had to keep myself safe too. "Melissa, it's me, your best friend; we have been friends since we played in the sand. Don't you remember?" I said, trying to jog her memory.
She may look different, but she's still my friend. 'She's somewhere inside that monster's body, and I need to get through to her,' I said to myself. She kept grunting as she moved towards me. 'What do I do?' I thought.
I was running out of space to move. I either had to get through to her or hurt her. Then it struck me; the necklace she wears; I have the same. We were both given the same necklaces as graduation gifts by my mother. I never took it off because it's all I have left of her memory since she was taken away from me by that Wolder monster.
I almost got lost in my mother's memory when Melissa reached to grab me. I moved away, putting my hands out, which bought her to a halt. I then reached for the necklace and said, "Melissa, do you remember this necklace? You have an identical one. My mom gave us them for our graduation. Do you remember?"
She stopped and stared at my necklace. "Check your neck; you have the same," I said, hoping she would remember. She looked at her necklace and then mine. "You see it, don't you?" I asked, taking it off and showing her. "Do you remember me, Melissa? I'm your best friend. I don't want to hurt you. Let me help," I said. She looked at me with sad eyes; she remembered something. She ran at once and jumped off the balcony.
"Melissa, wait!" I shouted. She ran off, leaving me to only watch hopelessly. I ran downstairs, grabbed the keys and got into my car hoping to find Melissa, but as I drove out, I had no idea how I was going to accomplish it. I drove aimlessly until I reached the cemetery. Then I remembered the last time Melissa saw the Juangrand—it was near the cemetery. I thought to myself that maybe that was where I was to look for her.
'I need to be careful because I just may be up against two Juangrands,' I said to myself. Problem is, one is my friend. As I sneaked around the cemetery, I noticed a person digging a grave. I moved towards him and asked, "What're you doing?"
He turned around panicked and dropped the shovel. Sweat beaded from his forehead down his dimpled cheeks as he struggled to explain to me what he was up to. I was shocked myself seeing him digging a grave, but then I saw the pile of bodies and it hit me, I was blindsided all along.
