"Aunt Cassie!" I shouted as I rushed to her side. Aunt Cassie was out cold, so I decided to skip CPR and chant the awakening spell instead. After a few minutes of chanting, she woke up. "What happened?" She asked, looking at us. "I happened," Anastasia said as she raised her hands to chant yet again.
"No, Anastasia, it is not her fault; she was controlled by the dark forces," I said. "What do you mean?" Anastasia asked, sounding confused. "She didn't mean to kill Mom, but she was turned into the woldermonster that killed Mom," I replied. "Okay, I guess I can believe that," she said. "Well, now we need to stop fighting among ourselves and find a way to help Mom," I said. "Of course," she said. We checked the grimoire for a strong spell. I wondered whether we could use the spell without a soul swap.
We continued our search as we tried to infuse many spells together. The doorbell then rang, making me wonder who was bothering us now. "I'll get it," Anastasia said, walking towards the door. I heard screams and arguments as I rushed to the door to find Jared and Charlie arguing with Anastasia. "Okay, move away," I said to Anastasia. I then turned to Jared and Charlie and said, "Come in, please."
"What the hell is going on here?" they both asked at the same time. "I will explain everything, but first, you two need to calm down," I said. "Calm down, really? this witch turned me into a monster and I killed people and consumed their hearts. She turned me into a cannibal and I still have nightmares every time I close my eyes! I haven't had a good night's sleep since that freaking day and now I see you have joined forces with the enemy; what changed?" Charlie asked.
"Okay, I get all that, and I get that you hate her; but she is my sister and I have to help her," I said. "What, she is your sister? Are you freaking kidding me?" Charlier asked, shocked. "She is, and my mother sacrificed her soul to save her, so I can't give up on her," I said. "Me neither," Melissa said. "You too?" Charlie asked. "Yes, we are sisters; all three of us. Mom separated us to at birth because she thought it was the only way to keep us safe, but unfortunately, that didn't work," She said. "Okay, can you just dial it down a minute?" Charlie replied all confused and angry.
We explained everything to them, which made them hold their heads saying, "Jesus, your lives are so complicated; if you write a book about it, it would become a bestseller."
"Well, it would have to be called 'fiction' as no one would believe it to be real, and no one should," I said. "I get that, but her?" Charlie said. "Well, we can't choose our family; it chooses us and unless you are on board with Anastasia being my sister, you and I can't be friends anymore," I said. "Fine then, but if she hurts someone, it will be on you. Remember that, Octavia," Charlie said.
"I know that, and now that we have to get on with our spell to retrieve our mother's soul, you should leave," I said. "Of course I have no idea what you're talking about, but can we help?" Jared asked. "Can you run an errand?" I asked. "Sure," he replied. I handed a list of ingredients to them and asked them to bring them from the potions shop. After they left, we continued with the spell preparation.
Jared and Charlie came back with the ingredients and after the potion was prepared, I summoned Christen and Brian, who then teleported us to the Hidden Forest. We stood over the spot that we used the spell before and chanted for a few minutes before the doorway opened. We continued to chant, waiting for our mom's soul to appear.
After a few minutes, Mom's soul appeared, floating around, trying to get away from the soul seekers. We continued chanting while Mom's soul floated up. I sprinkled the potion on the soul seekers that were pursuing her and they moved away as it was a repellent for evil beings. Mom floated back up onto the floor, and as she did, the ground closed.
"Mom!" we said together, wanting nothing more but to hug her right then and there. "My beautiful girls, all together. I love you all, and I am proud of the women you've become. Stay together united and no one can hurt you. Now, I have to bid you farewell. Take care of each other, and forgive your Aunt." she said as she disappeared before our eyes.
"Mom," I said, feeling sad, but then my sisters hugged me and made me feel better. I looked at Aunt Cassie standing aside with a sad look on her face and said, "Aunt Cassie, come join us."Her eyes lit up as she joined us in the hug. Brian and Christen then took us back home. As we arrived, I noticed something strange: all my roses were dead, and so were all the other plants.
"What has happened here?" I asked, shocked. "Plants dying like this so suddenly could only mean something evil is drawing near," Christen said. As I reached to unlock the door, I noticed that it was open. I felt a strange presence there. "Unless it's already here," he said again."Someone is inside and I don't think it's a friend," I said as I open the door chanting, ready to vanquish whatever that was there. "Hello, honey" came a voice as we entered. "No!" Anastasia yelled I sent it flying.
