"Brian, no!" I screamed, but there was nothing we could do.
"What just happened?" I asked.
"We need Melissa. Without her pendant, the spell is incomplete," Aunt Cassie said.
"How are supposed to get to her when our powers aren't complete?"
"What about the bracelet? Maybe destroying it will help Melissa regain control over her body, and that's just what we'll need to overpower Orlando," Arya said.
"It's worth a try. You still have it with you, right?" Anastasia asked.
"Yes, it's right here," Arya said, taking it out of her pocket.
Arya stood guard while Aunt Cassie, Anastasia, and I prepared for the spell. We put what little powers we had into an attempt to destroy the bracelet, but it bore no result. I wondered if we could at least break the link between Orlando and Melissa that this bracelet has created, but that plan, too, failed us.
Arya then noticed one of the shadow demons approach our cell and asked everyone to stop chanting. It checked on us and left without saying a word.
"That was a close call," I said.
We then resumed the chanting. After a while, I noticed that the engravings on the bracelet were slowly disappearing. Once they were completely erased, we all sighed. We couldn't be certain, but there was hope in our hearts that Melissa was finally free from Orlando's grip.
"Get out of my body, you monster!" Melissa yelled.
"No, You promised you'd stay with me forever! You witches...so arrogant; you think you're better than everyone else. You look down on us! My own mother tried to kill me, your sisters actually did!" Orlando replied.
"I'm sorry for what your mother did, but my sisters did what they did to protect me. You call this love? Possessing the woman you claim to love and holding her prisoner isn't love, Orlando! Let me go!"
"No, my survival depends on you!"
Orlando couldn't fight it any longer. With one more chant from us, his soul was banished from Melissa's body. Melissa was finally free from the grip of that cursed vondrohn.
She quickly rushed out of the room to reach us, but a shadow demon captured her. "Looking for your family, are you? Not to worry, you can share that cell with them for all eternity," it said.
"Here's your beloved sister," it said as it looked at me and shoved Melissa into our cell.
"Melissa!" I said, hugging her tightly. The others joined in as well.
"Did you do something to make him leave my body?" Melissa asked.
We explained to her that the bracelet he gave her was what linked them, and also that we need her pendant to reach full power. This time, the magic that surged through us was far more potent; we opened a new gateway and Brian appeared before us.
"Took you long enough," he said.
"Oh, sorry, we only lost all our powers and were being held by a vondrohn," Arya replied.
"Enough talk. We should get out of here, fast," Anastasia said.
"Agreed," Brian said, readying to teleport us; but right then, a shadow demon grabbed Melissa.
