"What, is that monster still inside her?" I asked.
"Yes, but not the way you think," Brian replied.
"What does that mean?"
"She's pregnant."
"She's what? Did you sleep with that monster after everything he did?" Anastasia asked.
"No, I didn't! This must be a mistake," Melissa said.
"She's telling the truth; she hasn't slept with him."
"Then how is she pregnant?" Arya asked.
"It's not his child, it's him. He has used their magic as a catalyst to reincarnate himself."
"How is that even possible?" I asked.
"I'm guessing this was his contingency plan in case you managed to destroy him yet again," Brian replied; "This is not the first time a vondrohn has done such an act; a similar incident took place a thousand years ago, and that, too, with triplet witches."
"How bad is it?"
"The creature would be reborn much more powerful than he was... He'll consume the powers of his host witch, and in this case, her two sisters as well. Then he'll move on to destroying everything he can... No one will be safe, not even the magical hierarchy."
"What do we do?" Melissa asked.
"An abortion, right away."
"To the hospital, it is," Anastasia said.
"No, that would be dangerous. This has to be handled with magic."
We rushed Melissa to the cellar and soundproofed it so that the neighbours wouldn't come knocking on our doors. After that, we found a spell in the grimoire and began to chant.
It was not long before Melissa began to scream in agony. It hurt us to see her like that—I wanted to stop—but we held on and kept going. We couldn't let Orlando return; the cost would be too great. With the final verse of the chant, Melissa screamed one last time before passing out.
Brian then walked to her and touched her head. "Oh, no..." he said.
"What's the matter? Is the vondrohn not gone?" Arya asked.
"No, it's gone..." Brian said, hesitating to say his next line; "but so is Melissa."
"What? You're lying!," I yelled in disbelief, "You didn't say this could kill her! Bring her back!"
"I'm sorry..." he replied.
"No, keep your damn apology and bring my sister back right now!" I screamed, grabbing Brian by the throat.
