It was Christen; he was standing next to Aunt Cassie.
"Christen, you're back! I thought you'd never come back. Does this mean you have forgiven me?" I asked hopefully. "No, I haven't forgiven you, nor am I back. I'm just here to inform you that I will be replaced by my colleague Brian," he said. "Oh, OK," I said, picking up the meat parcel from the floor and walking towards the kitchen. I put it in the fridge and called out to Aunt Cassie. She came over and asked what the problem was.
"No problem, I just need your help to get Melissa and Charlie back to normal," I replied. "Do you need to do it right now?" she asked. "Yes, we do. We need to get this done before Melissa's family and fiancé comes back looking for her," I answered. "OK, but what about Christen?" she asked. "What about him? He chose to leave and that's that," I replied. "You're upset," Aunt Cassie said. "No, I'm not. I just don't see the reason to harp on something I have no control over when there are more important things to do," I replied. "Alright, but don't forget that I know you better than you know yourself," she said. "Can we stop talking about me and focus on the matter at hand? I asked annoyed. "OK, fine. Let's get to work," Aunt Cassie said.
"I've been thinking, how about we start with a healing potion and finish up with a healing spell. Wouldn't that work?" I asked. "It might, let's try," Aunt Cassie said. We started with the portion. I went out to mom's herb garden and collected Brinz roots, Glazic leaves, and Brozane seeds. I chopped the roots and leaves while Aunt Cassie ground the seeds. "Can I help?" Jared asked. "Sure, why don't you get a crystal bowl and a spatula?" I asked. "Alright," he said and got them. "Christen left," Brian said as he walked in.
"OK," I said with disregard. "What are you up to?" he asked, looking around until his eye caught Melissa and Charlie lying on the floor. "What are those creatures?" he asked. "Juangrands," I replied while mixing the portion. "Oh, this is what Christen was talking about," he said in a slightly amused tone. I continued my work without paying attention to him. "I know you're unhappy about Christen leaving, and I am sure he'll be back when he cools off and forgives you for whatever you've done. But until then, I'm here if you need my help," he said. "Fine, if you want to help, try to find out where this witch is," I said, showing him the photo of the dark witch. "OK," he said and disappeared.
When we finished making the portion, we put a sleeping spell on Melissa and Charlie, after which we administered the portion via injection. Afterwards, we chanted the healing spell. We chanted the spell for over an hour with no response. "What's happening? Why aren't they waking up?" Jared asked impatiently. "Well, maybe it takes time. Remember, the last time I used the spell to awaken Melissa, she didn't wake up until I left the hospital," I replied. "That's true," he said, calming down. "Don't worry, they will be OK. Just be patient," said Aunt Cassie. I plugged the kettle on and made three cups of chamomile tea for us. While we sat sipping the tea, my eyes stayed on Melissa and Charlie.
All of a sudden, I noticed their skin colour change. "Look, their skin colour is changing!" I said, pointing towards Charlie and Melissa. "What, oh yes, it is!" said Aunt Cassie and Jared, at the same time. We watched impatiently as they changed back into their original form. We neared them and took a closer look. They were still unconscious, so we couldn't see if their eyes had changed colour as well.
"Shall we take the chains off and take them to a room?" I asked. "Good idea," replied Aunt Cassie, "but we should try and check the eyes first." We removed the chains after I pried open Melissa's and Charlie's eyes to see that their eye colours had changed back. As we were carrying them upstairs, the doorbell rang. "I'll get it," said Aunt Cassie, moving towards the door. Jared and I laid them in two separate bedrooms, and as we walked down, we saw that the cops were back.
"What are you doing here again?" I asked annoyed. We are looking into Melissa's disappearance and as you were the last one to see her before she disappeared, we decided to talk to you. We also heard some weird recording of you two," said Chief Samson. "What recording?" I asked. "This," he said, putting on a recording of our conversation on the way to the butcher. They had bugged my car.
"Oh, that recording; do you really think I didn't know you had bugged my car? I knew, so I decided to put on a show for you. After all, do you believe that I am a witch?" I asked. "OK, fine, but what about Melissa's disappearance?" the chief asked annoyed. "Whose disappearance?" a voice arose from behind us.
