My eyes were starting to strain from driving five hours straight and I'm sure as hell Show would be exhausted even with driving the Trans.
I signaled to stop and pulled over to a side which gave me a better view of where I was. Looking around I noticed some sand, more sand, and a shit ton of tumbleweeds.
"We rest here for a while and then we pick up the speed."
Show nodded tiredly as he took the key out of the ignition. My foot tapped on the kick stand to let it plant itself on the dessert floor before I mounted off cautiously.
My arms reached above my head as they just stretched, then I took my helmet off to let my head breath for once.
"Ach!" I mumbled as I felt my left foot start to go numb.
I walked towards the Trans Am to plant myself inside for a nap while Show kept a look out. Nothing made me cringe more than the sound of my leather jacket against the seats of the car, I laid in the backseat just listening to a cassette Show packed for the trip. Effortlessly I feel right into a daze where I felt my body slowly dissociate with the world.
...
"Table twenty seven needs their order!" I said a bit impatiently to our chef, Tony. They shot a glare quickly before setting three plates on the tray for me to take them out. Quietly I said my thank you and left without further chit chat so the people at table twenty seven didn't complain even more.
As I arrived at the table, they all huffed out at how incredibly long it took for me to get them their food, of course I apologized for the delay seeing as the diner was packed this morning.
Soon I left after making sure they were pleased with their order and went back to taking orders to send to Tony. Not long after this my lunch break was round the corner, to which I took the opportunity to smoke out back with a few of my colleagues.
"Charlize burn that cig out!" Greyson stormed out to our confined area. I stubbed the but on the nasty red brick wall and turned back inside to resume working.
"Yeah yeah whatever don't get on my ass about it," I muttered out because I knew damn well he was following me now. "I'll stop pestering you about it until you stop."
He went back to his office, only for me to roll my eyes.
"At it again? Buckle up princess and just quit," Flynn chuckled along with the kitchen staff. I flipped him off and made my way to the front again to immediately turn my attitude to a more positive one.
"Hello I'm Charlize and I'll be your waiter this morning, can I start you off with drinks?" I told the two odd looking men in front of me. They just knew how to stick out from the rest all right, I do say the one to the right of me was quite cute.
"Two coffees please," the one to my left spoke quítele.
I had to strain my ears to hear what the man said, he must of noticed me doing this because his cheeks turned a crimson red.
"Sorry he's a dumbass, it'll be two coffees." This time the other one replied much louder for me to hear. I noted it down and went to the counter for the coffee pot we had. I returned and poured them a full cup of black coffee and placed a small mug of milk in between them.
"Here's some milk for that hun and if you need anything else I'll be round here." I left with a smile and did a quick spin around my area to pour any coffee or refill a glass of water.
Time slowly started to quicken its pace and made me realize my shift was soon to end in ten minutes. Just as I did every day I made sure to check my area and noticed that the two men from an hour ago where still here, smoking.
Just as I was about to look away one of them turned to face me to call me over. I took a last order before going to their table and smiled when I was close enough to hear what they needed.
"Could we get a refill?"
I nodded and poured the remaining coffee I had into their mugs. Before I left the one to my left gave me a napkin with something written on it.
"Give me a call?"
...My eyes snapped open instantly when the man who gave me the napkin smiled and winked at me. I groaned from the aching in my body and let Show sleep while I switched places with him.
"Who's Tyler?"
My head snapped to the side when Show asked me a question.
"Someone from my past."
Show only nodded and proceeded to shut his eyes to have some rest before we roll out of here. I pulled a lever from the car and heard the trunk pop open, I walked to the back of the car to look for a can of power pup.
"Ow you're hot," I winced at the burning tin in my hand as I opened it with a can opener. I grabbed a spoon to scoop out the contents without making much of a mess.
I shut the trunk as softly as I could and leaned on it so I could finish the can. I watched as the sun burned my skin and made me feel like I was melting. The sun caused the eerily hot sounds from this dessert to burst my eardrums, "fucking bitch."
I turned back to the inside of the car so at least I was protected by a little of shade. An other good hour passed by to which made me wake Show Pony from his slumber.
By this time it was already five in the afternoon, at this rate we'd get to Zone 7 by sundown. The both of us dusted the dessert sky as we raced the sun, hoping we'd win this one time.
