I knew how to dive, one of my many skills that I had been taught over the years.
The ice cold water hits me and I freeze.
I begin to sink for several seconds before managing to get my limbs to listen again. I swim upwards and finat break the water surface, gasping desperately for air.
I take in my surroundings. There was a boat not too far off, I swim acrpos.to it, ready to intercept.
When I get close enough, I flail my arms about, and shout help a few times.
One woman spots me and waves me over to a small ladder on the side of the boat which led up onto the deck.
I swim over and pull myself up the rungs, she helps me the last few steps.
I collapse onto the deck and lean back against the side of the boat.
"Are you okay?" She exclaims.
I smile. "I'm fine, I'm a good swimmer." I tell her.
She eyes me with concern but doesn't question me.
"Is there a bathroom?" I ask.
She nods and steers inside towards a small room. I enter and lock it behind me, she was most likely waiting outside so I had to be quiet.
I grab a knife from my bag and face myself in the mirror. This was going to hurt. But I couldn't have them knowing where I was.
I raise the knife to my right wrist. I press the blade slightly and pause.
I get my bag and grab my shirt. I stuff it in my mouth and resume where I left off. I press the blade into my.wrist, this time hard enough to draw blood.
I press harder and a small squeak leaves my mouth. I make the cut deeper and longer, tracing my scar.
I scream into the shirt. I drop the bloody knife and use my hand to dig into wrist, when I feel the small metal device, I tug it out and collapse onto the floor.
I realise I didn't get any bandages. I rush over to the stall and wrap giant amounts of toilet paper onto my wrist. I also throw a few rolls into my bag.
Then, I unlock the door. Sure enough, the woman was waiting for me outside.
Her eyes immediately go to the wad of tissue on my wrist. "I fell and cut myself." I explain.
She nods slowly but watches me closely.
"Let's go outside." She suggests.
I agree and she turns to go. I take this opportunity to drop my tracker in her purse.
We go outside and I see the skyline of a city in the distance. It was light now and about six in the morning.
"How long until we get there?" I ask.
"To New York? About ten minutes." She says. "You be careful." She warns.
"I will." I reasure her.
We spend the rest of the journey in silence as we stare at the big city we were about to be enclosed by.
It gets bigger and bigger by the second.
Minutes later, the boat (or ferry as Johanna tells me it is called) comes to a stop.
Everybody from varying parts of the boat file off of it onto dry land. I step off onto land.
Johanna gives me a small smile. "Until next time." She says as she walks away, waving goodbye.
I return her farewell and eventually she disappears into the crowd and far away from me.
