Hayden was nice. Really, truly and incredibly nice. He looked and seemed like the average of ignorant sports guy that had girls throwing themselves at him and couldn't do a Math problem to save his life.
But he wasn't. He was smart and told me how he liked History and English. He enjoyed Shakespeare and he actually had a passion for stuff that wasn't shallow and overreacted. It made me feel like I had judged him before.
Eventually, we got to class and I got sat next to another guy, someone I hadn't met yet. His name was Stilman. He had dark skin and carefully styled hair. He was very lively but he seemed nice enough.
History was easy. I knew of most important events in some detail. Our curriculum consisted of three parts: the Cold War, Medieval England and Racism and Equality in the US. I could recite all of that. We only went up to the early twenty first century though.
The teacher seemed to be from Canada based off of his accent and tended to shout a lot with a very strong voice, but he was also well read and knowledgable about his subject, so I didn't mind about any of the other stuff.
I didn't see Becca or Danielle again until I had English with Danielle later that day. I was really beginning to warm up to them. At lunch, Danielle leads me to the middle of the dining hall where Becca was sitting next to a boy called David, he had bright blonde hair and I recognised him as a friend of Aiden's.
I sigh and realise we were going to have to sit with them today as I had no good reason to simply duck out. I reluctantly take a seat next to Danielle, away from everyone on the other side of the table that seemed engrossed in a seemingly simple conversation. My right side is empty, that is, until Hayden takes a seat next to me.
The table was populated with mainly big, stocky boys other than us and two other seemingly decent girls. I notice Alice in the table over from us, sitting with a table full of fake tanned, make up clogged girls. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Alice look up from her conversation with her friends and stare at us. I avoid her gaze and attempt to seem uninterested in the conversation. I didn't want her to think I was after her boyfriend, I didn't need that.
Hayden gives me a smile and tells me he's having another party this Saturday.
I look up at him and give him a judgemental look. "Didn't you just have a party yesterday?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.
He shrugs and nods. "Yeah, but that was like just a load of people from different schools getting drunk and humping each other. This is the end of summer get together. Invite only." He explains.
I feel blood rush to my cheeks at that and lower my face from his to stop him from noticing. I was being invited by Hayden. As I do this, he takes the chance to announce this to the rest of the table and officialy invite them. Danielle and Becca high five and being talking about last year's get together. By the sounds of it, it was quite exclusive and actually possibly fun.
When I feel the heat finally drain from my cheeks I face him again. "So, who else is coming to this thing?" I ask, trying to sound nonchalant.
He shrugs. "They'll be about twenty of us. All of us," he says, motioning to the people sitting at this table, "the rest of the football team, and some more girls." He adds sneakily.
I roll my eyes but he chooses to ignore it.
"It's at my parents lakehouse a few miles out of town, I can give you a ride if you want?" He offers.
I smile and shake my head. "It's fine. I'm pretty sure Danielle can take me." I say.
Danielle hears and reassures me that she can.
