I make my way back downstairs to the desk and approach the man at the desk again.
He hears me and looks up again. "I'm sorry Miss, is there something wrong with your room?" He asks.
I shake my head. "No, no, my room is fine, do you happen to know of a shop around here?" I ask.
He clears his throat. "Sure, there's a Wal-Mart two blocks away. Just walk out of here, take a left, get to the end of the street, another left and you walk two blocks. You'll see it." He tells me.
"Blocks being streets?" I ask.
"Uhm... yeah... streets." He tells me.
I thank him and leave.
I follow his instructions and giant glowing building comes into sight. It was beautiful.
I make my way towards it and it feels even larger. There was a giant parking lot, with barely any cars.
It was nearly ten now and most
people were probably at home.I step into the store, it was much like the storage unit back at the facility. Shelves were everywhere, lined with different things. But there were also people walking around with carts filled with stuff.
I smile and spot a queue of such carts and take one. They had wheels and were probably used to transport goods.
I steer them towards the shelves, I had four hundred dollars in my pocket.
This aisle was filled with bottles of drinks all labelled with 'Over 21'. I shrug a move one where there was plenty of bread and similar food.
I spot some colourful ring bread looking things and go to look closer.
They were bright pink and circle shaped with holes in the middle. I smile, shrug and put it in my cart and move on.
I go down the next aisle which was also drinks but without the labels this time. Some were 'sparkling' and others were strange colours.
Back at the facility we were only given water.
I grab a small collection of 'Cocoa Cola' in small metal tins.
I place them in my cart and make a decision in the back of my mind.
I know I had to save money. I know I had to be careful but for once, just this once I was going to get whatever I wanted.
There were colours and strange shapes and weird names and I was just so curious.
I wheel the full cart towards the computers at the front with an amused smile on my face.
The woman sits up straight and goes to her computer. I copy what I saw before, putting everything on the moving surface.
"Would you like a re-usable bag?" She asks.
"Uhm.. sure." I agree.
She gets one out and glances at me. "How many?" She asks.
I glance at the bag and then at my stuff. "Five I guess. Thank you." I say.
She nods and retrieves them before passing them to me.
She begins passing each item pass a scanner, it beeps and then it slodes to me.
I pack everything away until the bags bulge.
"One hundred and eighty dollars, please." She says.
I hand her two one hundreds and she gives me a twenty back.
"Thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart." She says before I grab two and realise my problem.
