The plane landing was just as bad as it was taking off, the walls rattled and shook and it unnerved me. I wasn't afraid of heights but the noises made me stay on edge. It was a lot like the whirring of the MRI's I have every year, the churning of a machine. Luckily, I knew where to put my feet and where to put my weight while in these ridiculous heels. I am handed a small pink purse which, upon looking inside, I discover holds a disposable cell phone, a wad of money, and a handgun. I nod to the guard at the opening door and stumble out into the darkness.
The plane fires up and leaves and once again the world is silent. I'm in an obviously rough neighbourhood. None of the walls are left without graffiti and there's the odd gunshot every now and again. My phone beeps with a message. It reads an address and I slowly navigate my way around paying attention to every road sign I can see.
After I reach the destination over ten blocks away, I cautiously approach the mismatched group. There were two opposing sides, both with lots of guns. Though they weren't raised. Each side had a man at the front, the leaders. "Ahh my entertainment is here." A fat man says smugly, with a thick Romanian accent. He waves me off to the side with a mischievous smile that makes me uncomfortable.
They converse in Romanian. "Ai lucrurile mele?" (You have my things?) The fat man asks. The other man nods and throws over several bags of things I don't even want to know about.
"este totul acolo, verificați dacă doriți." (It is all there check if you wish.) The thinner man says respectfully. The other leaders shakes his head slightly and his men take the bag and put it into a black Land rover parked behind us.
Within twenty minutes the deal is done and the other side retreats into several nearby cars. The man turns to me. "Now, follow me to my hotel." Several men come up next to me in an imposing manner. They lead me into an obviously expensive car. We drive for less than five minutes before stopping at a run down motel.
We all get out and I feel my nerves setting in. "I am sorry for the bad quality. I have to be invisible at times like these. I hope you understand." He apologises. I nod respectfully and we enter the small building.
The man has a quick conversation with the desk woman and I stand awkwardly behind him. After a while we are led to the back hotel, where there is a large shed. At first, It looks almost derelict, but as we enter I realise it completely the opposite. There is plush furniture and carpet. A giant bed sits at an elevated part of the room with an Jacuzzi by the door and also an an suite bathroom. The man gives a low sigh. "This will do."
I nearly gasp. This would definitely do. He seemed almost disappointed with the room, though I couldn't see how that was possible. Over the top was one way of describing it but not a disappointment. It was luxury at its finest, or maybe not. I had no idea when it came to things like these. My bedroom didn't compare to this at all.
"Now, I am going to wash up, I will be back." The man turns towards the bathroom and gives me a last glance before closing the door behind him. I hear the sound of a faucet turning on.
I let out a deep breath as I prepare myself for what was going to happen in the minutes to come. I knew there were two guards outside our door and that was it, except for a few men in their own rooms in the actual motel. I had to make sure not to cause too much of a commotion as they may notice and come after me.
I hear the faucet in the bathroom turn off and some rustling around. The door opens and the man emerges barely clothed now. "I am Cosmin, you may call me sir though." He informs me.
I nod and bow my head to him. "Sir." I murmur. He begins to approach and I instinctively begin to retreat to the back wall. He gives a soft chuckle and shakes his head. "Don't be frightened my girl, now, why don't you get those shoes off first?" He says.
