I lie on my bed.
I had done that a lot recently, just sat there and thought.
I never used to think. To question.
I just put my trust and faith in the people that looked after me, never quesstioned their intentions or what they wanted from me or even what they'd do to me if I refused.
I sit up and face the wall of the room I had known for years.
I had to go.
I had to leave this forsaken place where they killed and tortured and experimented without any conscience.
I take a deep breath and begin to think.
I had a mission in a few days, Tuesday morning. Missions were one of my only connections to the outside world and would be my way out of here.
I could live and go to school and get a job and earn money and fall in love and get married and have children and be apart of a real family.
The storage unit, I could steal some money and everything I would need and get out of here.
Wait until the perfect moment and leave just like that.
I stand up and walk out of my room with a real purpose for once. I needed to find this storage unit first before I could even attempt to break in and steal what I needed.
Melanie had said the bottom floor and although she wasn't very sure it did make sense to have that sort of facility way underground.
The problem was you would need authorization and what not to get into it.
I make my way along the corridors and come up to the elevators.
Fuck, the elevators.
When going to a restricted floor you needed to flash your key card before they allowed you to go there.
Unsurprisingly, I was not in possession of one of those key cards.
I sigh and open the doors to the flights of stairs that lead up and down the facility.
Most commanders and other people working here were either much too busy or much to lazy to deal with the nonsense of stairs and so often took the elevators leaving the stairs clear of people most of the time.
I open the door and begin making my way downstairs at a steady pace. Not too fast to look rushed but not too slow to look suspicious.
Our rooms and our teaching quarters were all just underground. There were offices in the floors aboce ground with the conference rooms and offices of higher ranking people right in the top floors of the building.
Underground there were storage areas, guard quarters, the infirmary and other necessary facilities. The hanger and other big warehouses were just outside of the facility, a fw hundred feet away.
I make my way downstairs and don't run into anybody luckily.
Eventually I start reaching the lower floors and the doors that open up to the actual corridors have a small key card swiper for it to be opened.
I was lower than the infirmary and guards quarters and was now enetering where this storage unit had to be.
Soon I know I'm getting right to the bottom as the stone that surrounds me is less smooth and chiselled, natural. This was the foundation of the entire building.
I stick my head down the middle and clearly see the bottom of the facility two flights below me.
I start walking a bit more when I hear the sound of footsteps. Heavy, purposeful and controlled, a guard. It was coming from above me and clearly making its way downstairs directly towards me.
