"Jo!" I hear Hero calling from the living room. I was just finishing up getting ready for our interview today as I tuck my white cotton t-shirt into my jean shirt with buttons down the front. I was nearing two months in my pregnancy, and I thanked my lucky stars that I hadn't gained much weight.
Once I'm dressed, I turn and look at myself in the mirror. I caught myself doing this often, maybe because it still felt surreal to me. I shake my head, ridding myself of any overwhelming thoughts before sliding into my white Keds and meeting Hero in the living room. He was wearing black jeans, a gray t-shirt, white sneakers, and a jean jacket.
"It's about time." He groans.
"Sorry, just wanted to look good." I gush.
Hero looks at me, dumbfounded. "Jo, you always look good. More than good."
I look away and blush. "Thanks."
We stand there in silence for a few moments before Hero takes my hand and we leave. Things had been better between us, but the idea of a baby being involved was still a foreign concept. We were doing our best though, and that was enough.
Hero and I drive to the Wired studios, where the Autocomplete Interviews were conducted. I always loved watching these interviews. Often times they would find the craziest search results, and I only hoped that Hero and I wouldn't have any nerve-wracking questions.
We make our way inside the small studio where there was a little room with couches, vending machines, and table games. Along the backdoor, there was a large painting with 'Wired' hidden in the art. Within the painting were a set of double doors that a man soon comes through. He was short, had blond hair, and large glasses. "Hey guys, I'm Levi. I run the interviews at our Los Angeles studio."
Hero reaches over and shakes his hand as he approaches us. "Happy to be here."
We follow Levi towards the double doors. As I get a closer look at the painting, I notice that the theme was futuristic in a way. It was a painting of a city, with the sunsetting in the background. The orange and yellow sky tied in perfectly with the lights of the city. Circling the skyscrapers were flying cars and microscopic people with jetpacks, which I felt took away from the serene vibe of the sunset.
"Our goal is to keep moving forward. To explore tomorrow. Wired is run solely through technology which is why all of our interviews are geared towards technology-based criteria." Levi explains as we walk into an all-white room. "Alright, have a seat in these chairs. You'll be given five boards with four different searches on each. They're all covered so just pull the tabs and answer them one by one as you go. That's all really. Plain and simple. Have fun with it."
"Sounds good." I smile at him.
Levi walks behind the camera for a moment before returning with five poster boards. He hands them to me before stepping back behind the camera. "In five, four, three, two."
On 'one', he points to us and I smile at the camera. "Hi, I'm Josephine Langford."
"And I'm not." Hero says, causing us both to laugh.
"We are here to do the Wired Autocomplete interview."
I pick up the first board which says, 'Is the After Movie' and hold it between us. "Okay, the first question is," I remove the thin piece of paper off before reading. "Is the After Movie based on a fanfiction?"
"Well, originally 'After' was a fanfiction on an app called Wattpad before being published into a book series. After that, it was offered a movie deal so yes it was based off of a fanfiction originally." Hero answers.
"Next question," I say before peeling off the next piece of paper. "Is the After Movie real?"
"I would hope so. Otherwise I don't know what the hell I've been doing for the past two years." Hero laughs, causing me to laugh along.
