A Broken Secret

Okay, so this AU is a little weird, but please bear with me (and don't mind the song).

In this AU, Marinette's parents are in the military and have been M.I.A for several years (don't ask why I tend to torture them like this, shut up). Marinette also has an older brother in this AU, his name is Daniel and he is about two years older than Marinette. Ever since their parents' disappearance, he has been Marinette's protector.

Another thing, in this AU, Gabriel Agreste is not Hawkmoth. Instead, Daniel, Marinette's older brother, is. His motivation is to use the ladybug earrings and the black cat ring to help him locate his and Marinette's missing parents.

I shouldn't have seen that!

Ladybug sat on the edge of a random rooftop in the still nighttime of Paris, hands roughly pressed against the sides of her head as she tried to forget what she saw a couple hours before.

Chat Noir was long gone by now; probably at home, curled up in the warmth of his bed as he (hopefully) didn't have nightmares. He was with her when an Akuma attacked earlier and he's been gone for around half an hour now.

Ladybug stayed behind after the Akuma was dealt with, still reeling from what she had seen before the Akuma attack, before the start of their nighttime patrol.

And she would do anything to try and forget and she had seen.

•Flashback•

"Daniel? Daniel, I'm heading off to bed."

Marinette wandered the dark and seemingly empty household in search for her older brother. She was looking for just a hint of light; something to signify where he was.

She had checked his bedroom, he wasn't there, she even had turned the light on to make sure he wasn't hiding under his bed covers. If he had been, he probably wouldn't mind. Even though they were both in their late teens, Marinette made sure to let her older brother know when she was heading off to bed; it had become a habit, for both of them.

She checked both the living room, dining room and kitchen at the same time since they were all connected, he wasn't there either.

She even had gone to check their parents' bedroom, a bedroom that hadn't been used in a few years now. Perhaps he was remembering memories and wanted to just be in the presence of their parents' things, doing that was oddly comforting for the two of them.

When Marinette couldn't find Daniel anywhere, she decided to check downstairs in the bakery.

It had been a house rule ever since they were young and their parents were still around that they were never allowed in the bakery after closing unless they were with either their mother or father. This was to prevent kidnappings. You never know when a random person walks past the bakery late at night and sees a child walking around alone and they get an impulse to kidnap the child.
