Hey! A New Year's special?!?  I never do holiday specials, but I figured what better way of starting off the year with a holiday special. I hope I get around to doing holiday specials for all major holidays that I celebrate while doing other, random one-shots (I'll also try to squeeze a few requests in if I get any!!). Also, I know I already established this, but I'm mean to these characters. Sorry...not sorry?

It was a few days before New Year's and Marinette was in her bedroom sewing. Her room was dimly lit up by a lamp on her desk and fairy lights that she had recently hung up around her room since she decided that the upper portion of her bedroom walls looked a little bare. This created just enough light so that Marinette could sew, without blinding her with light.

Marinette was currently sewing on chaise longue, humming along to the song that quietly played from her phone's playlist; her phone on her desk. She had been sewing for about almost two hours now, and it was getting late, though Marinette didn't really care. She enjoyed the stillness of the night, which she hadn't really realized until she did her first nightly patrol alone.

Luckily, on that night there had been no criminal activity; no robberies, no late night mugging attempts, and most importantly, no akumas. It was a still, silent night, the only sounds being Marinette's footsteps on the rooftops, the sound of her yo-yo whenever she had used it, and the gentle, nighttime breeze.

After that night, Marinette truly appreciated the silence that the night had brought, and ever since, she made sure to take it in every night and remember it for some nights were different than others and being in a different spot changed the sounds of the night.

There were some nights where it was lightly sprinkling and the soft sounds of the rain hitting bits of metal were like a lullaby to whoever would listen. It was breathtaking and Marinette found herself staring aimlessly into space for hours whenever that would happen.

Marinette put down the project she was sewing for a moment, her project currently being a hat for the winter weather, to console her designing notebook to make sure she was getting all the details right.

Then, there was a knock at her trapdoor, the one that leads downstairs. Marinette raised her head, tilting it in slight confusion.

"Yes? Is something going on?"

Her trapdoor opened and revealed her father. "Oh, I didn't realize you were still awake; whatcha sewing there? A new design that will make the world gasp in awe?"

Marinette chuckled in response. "I'm not quite sure about that...but it's just a hat since the weather is cold and I tore my last one a couple days ago."

"And how did you do that?" Tom inquired.

Marinette chuckled exasperatedly and in slight embarrassment. "It got caught on something sharp while I was walking home from school a few days back and I didn't notice it until I went to put the hat on the next day."

Tom laughed quietly. "I don't know how you manage to get yourself into situations like that, but nonetheless, I'm going to be heading to bed, okay? Don't stay up too late."

Marinette smiled gently, getting up and walking over to her father and sitting down so he could kiss her on the forehead.

"Goodnight Marinette."

"Goodnight Papa. I'll see you in the morning."

Tom nodded and he whispered one final goodnight to her before closing the trapdoor and disappearing to his room.
