You can't sleep

You laid in bed next to Ashton who was sound asleep. You on the other hand were praying for just a few hours of sleep. It was now 3am and you had yet to fall asleep. Ashton has been sleeping for 5 hours now, he'd been so busy lately and you just wanted to let him sleep. You continued to move around the bed as quietly as possible but you felt Ashton's hand rest on your back. "What's wrong?" His voice was thick with sleep, you could tell he was exhausted and it made you feel bad for waking him up. "Nothing Ash. I'm alright, go back to sleep." You kissed his cheek and his eyes fluttered shut again. You knew he was exhausted and you didn't want to take a chance on waking him back up so very quietly and slowly you got out of bed to go downstairs and get some water hoping it'd somehow help you fall asleep.

You stood at the kitchen counter resting your head in your hands, the glass of water next to you as you felt yourself slowly becoming overwhelmed. You felt the fear of being unable to sleep wash over you, the thoughts of not being able to spend time with Ashton were slowly creeping into your brain making a tear fall down your cheek. He'd just gotten home with you a couple nights ago and he wasn't gonna have to leave for a while, it made you excited yet here you were, terrified that you were gonna miss out or somehow ruin it all by being unable to sleep. You were so deep in your thoughts that you didn't notice Ashton had come downstairs in search of you until you felt his arms go around your waist and his chin rest on your shoulder. "What are you doing up y/n? It's 4am." "No reason." "There's obviously a reason babe, why?" "Can't sleep. I'm not tired and I felt bad for waking you up so I just thought I'd come down here and get a glass of water but it's not helping..." "shh. Okay babe, it's okay. Something on your mind darling?" He buried his face in your neck, his arms still wrapped around you as he slowly swayed your bodies from side to side. "Not really. I just don't wanna ruin our time together." "Now how on earth could you possibly do that, hm?" "I don't know. Not being able to sleep... I don't know Ash. I just really missed you and I wanna spend every second of the day with you." "Baby girl, a sleepless night won't ruin our time together. A day in bed just the two of us actually sounds really nice. And I know you do, I want that too. But even when you're away in dreamland, I'm still right next to you. I hold you in my arms, sometimes I like to watch the way your eyelashes flutter against your cheek or how you smile from time to time against my chest, it makes me happy. I don't get to do that when I'm on tour and it brings me so much happiness to just be here with you, to be home and to hold you in my arms as you sleep. You just look so peaceful and I love it. But baby girl, I'm not going anywhere for a while, alright? It's just you and me together for a few months. We can do whatever we want which includes sleeping till 2 in the afternoon if we want to." You giggled and nodded your head, your hands going to rest on his that were still wrapped around your waist. "So are you tired? Even just a little?" You shook your head and he sighed before kissing the top of your head and grabbing your hand, pulling you up the stairs and leading you towards the bedroom. He laid you down in bed and covered you up with the blankets before climbing in next to you and reaching for the remote on the nightstand to turn on friends reruns. He pulled you into his arms and you rested your ear against his heart, listening to it skip a few beats here and there which made you smile. He looked down at you, his gaze catching yours before he pressed his lips to yours. You let your eyes flutter shut to focus on his heartbeat and the feeling of being in his warm embrace, his hands rubbing your back soothingly.

A few minutes later he looked down to find you asleep, a smile on his face as he kissed your forehead once more before he let his eyes close too while friends kept playing quietly in the background. Ashton had a great life and loved what he got to do for a living but nothing could compare to nights like this, to you.. to being home with you.
