Ashton closed the door behind him, hoping to leave the memory of the bad day behind him as well.

He felt a small smile cross his face when he smelled something delicious. An aroma in the air that was almost as sweet as you. You stood in the kitchen, smiling happily at him when he entered the room.

You excitedly ran to him and hugged him tightly. "What's all this?"

You grabbed his hand and led him to the counter. Ashton was almost drooling at the sight of the tray of cookies on the counter, waiting just for him. "I heard you had a bad day so I wanted to do something special for you!"

His heart melted. "Well, aren't you just the sweetest?" You stole a kiss from his lips and smiled against them. "Not nearly as sweet as these cookies. I made them myself, so you have to try them!"

He laughed at your excitement but nodded his head. He reached for one and bit into it, expecting a delicious taste to settle on his tongue. But what he got instead was something salty.

He squeezed his eyes shut and coughed, trying hard to disguise that you had somehow mixed the ingredients up because he didn't want you to be sad about it when you were clearly so proud of yourself and so excited.

But your smile fell. You could tell something wasn't right. "Is it not good, Ash?" He put part of the cookie on the counter and swallowed thickly. "Uh, no, baby. It's great!" You frowned, seeing right through his fake enthusiasm. "You're lying."

"No. I mean, I'm sure it'd be wonderful... if it wasn't so salty." Your eyes went wide and you grabbed the jar he kept on the counter. "I used this! The sugar." He laughed and shook his head. "No, baby, this is the salt! The sugar is in the cabinet, in the pack."

Ashton was laughing a little but he stopped when he saw the sadness in your eyes. "I just wanted to do something nice for you. I know you had a bad day and I thought that this would cheer you up. I can't do anything right."

He grabbed your face gently in his hands. "Don't say that. Y/n, this is so incredibly sweet of you to do. No one has ever done anything like this for me before."

"But I didn't even do it right!" You frowned causing Ashton to shake his head with a smile. "It's the thought that counts. Y/n, you did this for me because I had a bad day. No one has ever done anything like this for me, just because my day was bad. You're thoughtful and wonderful, and I love you so much."

Your eyes went wide at his words. It was the first time they ever fell from his lips for you. "You what?"

Ashton realized what he had said. He was a little nervous at first until he noticed the hint of a smile on your face. "I said that I love you."

You lopped your arms around his neck and smiled tearfully at him. "Say it again!"

"Hey, I've already said it twice and you haven't even said it once yet!" He laughed as he laid his forehead onto yours. "Please say it again."

He gazed into your eyes and cupped your cheek. "I love you. Y/n, I love you so much. I love the way you look at me, the way you make me feel. I love how thoughtful you are. I love everything about you. I love you."

You let out a tearful chuckle. "I love you too, Ashton. I love you so very much." He kissed you passionately, stroking your cheek in soft circles with his thumb as you both cherished the moment.

You pulled away from the kiss and laid your head down on his shoulder. "I'm still sorry I messed up the cookies though."

He laughed and put his chin on your head, kissing your hair softly. "It's okay, my love. We'll make a new batch, together."

You inhaled the smell of his cologne on the skin of his neck. You kissed it softly, realizing just how in love with him you truly were. "I'd love that."
