Nick didn't imagine his first day at his new school ending watching a movie with a mess of pillows and blankets around him. Apparently they had been banned from the common room, so they were all in someone's dorm.
One of them had gotten popcorn from the kitchens, and Thad was plugging Jeff's laptop in to a... thing.
"What is that?" Nick asked.
Thad half glanced at the screen. "Amazing what you can do with a $20 monitor from Ebay and a couple cords."
Jeff leaned over to Nick, breath tickling his neck. "Thad someone rigged it so it takes the image from my computer and displays it. Hook a speaker up to the computer and put it on top of the screen, and bam, an off-brand TV."
"That's really cool," Nick said. His mother would like it if he knew how to wire things like that.
They started the movie, and Nick found himself breaking his promise to himself. Not only was he enjoying the movie, he was enjoying sitting next to Jeff. He would get all charged with energy at some parts, right before something he really liked happened. He was clearly struggling to stay silent.
When Brad and Janet backed up into an elevator, Nick could have sworn Jeff was going to spontaneously combust.
His amusement stilled when he saw what Jeff was excited about.
There was a guy... in drag? Nick was so confused. While they were clearly entertained by the performance, he was mainly confused.
His confusion was soon lost as the movie continued.
He completely forgot about his promise to himself. He was loving the movie.
