"Oh my god, I cannot believe you," Nick mumbled, tackling Wes in a hug.

Wes chuckled, hugging him back. "I wasn't about to lie. And I'm so sorry I didn't tell you I was testifying, I found out minutes before we left. I didn't even think I was coming."

"Wes. You are seriously not trying to apologize right now. You just saved me, all this, their decision- that was because of what you did."

He smiled sheepishly. "I come from a family of several lawyers."

"Yeah, next time warn me that your parents are persuasive enough to convince me that she's innocent." They both laughed.

"Noted." Wes jumped slightly as a hand was set on his shoulder. He didn't even look back to know who it was. "I'll see you at Dalton, Nick."

Nick nodded, not able to look Wes's father in the eye. He felt incredibly intimidated.

"Nicholas, isn't it?" He looked up, surprised that Mr. Montgomery was actually talking to him. "I'm incredibly sorry. We're longtime friends of your mother's, I'm afraid our apprehension at your father having custody of his children blinded us."

Wes mouthed 'smile and nod,' at Nick, his father not able to see him as his hand was no longer on his shoulder, holding him in front of him.

Nick gave him a tentative smile, shaking his proffered hand. "It's quite alright. Though what do you mean, you were apprehensive about my father having custody?"

Wes, who had been violently shaking his head, sighed and put his face in his hand. Nick wasn't sure what he had done until Wes's father spoke.

"Well, I'm sure you know what their entire divorce was about. It's was a pity, he was a nice man. He supports... that crowd."

The disgust in his voice, how he spoke about it like it was some unspeakable crime, it set Nick off. Wes was shaking his head again, and he mouthed 'DON'T.'

Nick did. "Sir, I'm gay. I can't lie when I say I'm happy he supports me."

Wes's eyes went wide.

Mr. Montgomery took a step back, disgust filling his features. He turned around, snapping and not even bothering to speak over his shoulder as he walked away. "Wesley. Come."

Wes quickly followed him, hands folded and head down.

Nick glared after Wes's father, both angry at him and wondering how he got away with speaking to his son like that.
