Chapter 22: Tasteless

Sky's POV
Me and Lulu were gathered on the couch, staring at the plain walls with plates of Mac n cheese in our laps.
"So," I said.
"So," Lulu repeated.
I smiled, "Where do we even start?"
Lulu looked down, stirring her pile of melted cheese. She sighed, and looked into my eyes, "When you got hit, you crashed into a side table. I heard the crash and managed to get to you in time. Gumball took the pan from me and jabbed at the goblin, but more came out of the shadows and one scratched up her cheek pretty bad."
I couldn't believe this. What on earth had happened? Why couldn't I be there to help? Poor Gumball!

Lulu looked at my expression, "That's not all. Gumball fell down, she couldn't get back up for a solid couple of seconds. So, I got up and started jabbing. Rose was being dragged away, literally a foot away from going through some sort of portal! I fought as best as I good, and soon Gum got back up, fighting with me. But then, I got hit."
She rolled up her leggings, revealing a massive, bloody and bruised cut.

I gasped.

Lulu rolled down her leggings again. She shook her head, "You think that's bad? Wait till you see Gumball's cheek. Even her genie magic won't cure any of this mess."
I looked down at my slippers. I thought this year was going to be good. But, this happened. This chaos. And I felt responsible for it.

Guiltily, I took a forkful of the Mac n cheese. It didn't taste like anything: empty, bland, vanilla. The cheese swirled in my stomach, and I soon lost my appetite.

"Not very good, is it?" Lulu said.
"I told you, I should've cooked it! You never stir tinned macaroni like that!" I exclaimed, tapping her shoulder, "In all seriousness, I think we should get your leg checked. It will get infected."
Lulu smiled, "Only if you get your stomach sorted."
I gave in, "Alright. I guess I am in a tad bit of pain?"

We put Jewels to sleep on Lulu's bed, and then walked to reception.
