"Morning Line!", Anna smiled after we woke up. "Morning", I said back, "Did you sleep well?" She nodded and then went into the bathroom. I cuddled back up in my bed and scrolled through my phone. A new message, by an unknown Dutch number.
"Hi beautiful. Hope you slept well. I couldn't resist but ask Anna for your number. Martijn"
Anna. Damn it. I mean he was nice, kind of, but I didn't need him. Seriously. He was just a random guy. I decided to ignore the text and pretend it didn't happen. After breakfast, Anna and I headed to class. When we got done and headed to the Dining Hall for lunch, my phone lit up with another message from Martijn.
"Hi Line. How was your day so far? Anna told me you're both studying. Hope I get to see you again someday. Tijn"
I flashed Anna my phone: "Look what you've done." Anna giggled: "Hahaha aww that guy is a sweetheart. Why would you ignore him? You're always so negative since you and Toby broke up. Go text him back." "Alright, for heaven's sake. But don't expect me to fall for him like you did for Julian, right.", I mumbled. Anna just continued to giggle. I rolled my eyes and then texted him back.
"Hey stubborn. Day's been good until you showed up. Yours? Line"
"Good so far, better now that you responded. Been working a lot."
"What do you work as? Is nagging poor innocent girls your job? You're good at it."
"Naw, I'm just Julian's sidekick for that. Wish you would let me show you the real me. You're real tough. I'm not as it seems, promise."
And then I just left it at that. He was really persistent at trying to snag a date with me, I had to admit that. Anna and I finished up our lunch and then went back for our classes. In the middle of two lectures, I went to get a coffee from the little coffee store on campus. While waiting in line, I decided, fuck it, let's give him a chance. It won't hurt, I guess.
"Alright. Show me. But you might only get this one chance, I warn you."
The answer followed just seconds after. It was as if the guy was stuck behind his screen waiting for my texts.
"Yess. Glad to hear that. I'll meet you.... On Saturday... by the river in Amstelveen. There's this huge park. Let's meet there at 7pm. Leave room for food!"
"Alright, I'll be there. See you, stubborn."
Food? That sounded good. If his taste for food was nearly as good as his choice of cocktails, there was a chance the date wouldn't be too bad. And I mean I could still leave if he annoyed me, right? I got my coffee and went back to the next lecture. I dropped down on a chair next to Anna, opened my laptop and while we waited for the lecturer, I told her: "So, I've got some news. Mr. Stubborn succeeded. He snagged a date with me next Saturday. It better be good. If not, I'll kill you for giving out my number." Anna laughed and said: "Yaaay. I knew you'd fall for him. I just knew it. I will need you to tell me everything. Understood? And by the way, Julian is taking me out on Sundaaay. I can't waiiiit...." Luckily, the lecturer entered the room in that second, so I didn't need to deal with love struck Anna anymore.
