The next morning, I sneaked out of bed into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Martijn and me. His dad was coming to pick him up soon together with Watse. They were going to drive to the hospital to get Martijn's ankle checked, while I went to my classes with Anna. I returned to him with two plates of scrambled eggs and toast and decided to wake him up. After I put the plates down, I gently let my fingers run through his hair and gave him a kiss: "Good morning love, you need to wake up now. I made you breakfast!" Martijn slowly opened his eyes and then gave me a smile: "I could get used to waking up to this view." "Haha there was no need to hurt your ankle for that, idiot. But hey, here's your breakfast! Do you want coffee with it?", I replied. "Yes please.", he answered and sat up in bed. As I got back to his room with the coffee, I sat down next to him: "We need mornings like this one more often, don't you agree?" "Absolutely.", Martijn agreed, "It feels good to wake up next to you and not have to rush to some kind of meeting or appointment." "You do have to go to the hospital today though.", I remarked. "I know.", he said, "But I'll be alright. I promise." "I hope so.", I said and leaned my head against his shoulder. We ate our breakfast quietly for a while, before Martijn pointed to the letter I had left on the bedside table: "You read it last night, right?" I nodded my head: "Yes I did. And you know what?" "What?", he asked and turned to look at me. "You don't need to be sorry for anything and there's also nothing you need to pay be back for. I love you more than you could ever imagine, Martijn. And that also includes making breakfast you every day if you need me to.", I answered with a little laugh. Martijn smirked and said: "I'll take you up on that, girl." "What? The love-part or the breakfast-part of it?", I teased him. "Well.... Both, I guess.", he laughed and gave me a kiss. "But honestly, being able to read all these words means a lot to me. It is so important to let the other person know what you're feeling, whether it's good or bad, it's just that communication is key. I know where a relationship can end if there's no communication... So thank you for being so open to me. That really means a lot.", I said a little more quietly. Martijn's hand gently caressed my cheek, while he was looking for words to form an answer to what I had just said. "Baby, just know these times are over. Nothing like that will ever happen to you again, I promise.", he said and wrapped me into a hug. His arms held me for a while, before he let go and checked the time on his phone: "I guess we need to get up now. You need to get to your classes baby and my dad will be here soon as well. Can you help me get up please?" "Of course.", I smiled and helped him get ready. About twenty minutes later, I was ready to leave for my classes: "Promise you'll text me as soon as you get any news? I'll be waiting. Or just call me in my breaks." "I promise baby. Have a great day, okay? I can't wait to see you tonight.", he answered with a smile. "Me neither.", I answered, "I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Oh and say hi to your dad and Watse for me!" "I will!", he promised, "Love you, baby!" "Love you too!", I said as I left his apartment and closed the door behind me. I really hoped that nothing serious happened to his ankle, because I could already imagine how devastated he would be not to be able to play shows for some time. With mixed feelings, I made my way to campus where Anna was already waiting for me: "Hey girl! How are you? And how's Martijn holding up?" I gave her a hug: "Hey!! I'm alright, what about you? And Martijn's doing well so far, he has an appointment today for a full examination of his ankle. We'll see what comes out of that one, I guess." She gave me a smile and said: "Don't worry, he'll be fine. Come on, let's get to class now!" I agreed and we headed over to our lecture hall. It was only a few hours later, basically after all my classes, that I got some news. It was Watse who gave me a call right when Anna and I were on our way to the dining hall to grab a bite to eat. "Hey Line! Do you have a second?", he asked when I took the call. "Hi Watse! Sure, I'm done with my classes anyways. What's up? What did the doctors say?", I replied. "Okay, so basically we have the following situation: We've been in and out of check-ups the whole day and they won't let Martijn go home tonight. It looks like all his ankle ligaments are torn and if that's really the case, he will have to get surgery to fix that as soon as possible.", he explained. "Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Can I do something for you? Do you guys need anything?", I asked. "Exactly, that's why I'm calling. You do still have a keycard to Martijn's apartment, don't you? It would be awesome if you could get him some stuff, you know clothes, his laptop, chargers and all that. I can't leave here at the moment, otherwise I would have done it myself, you know? Oh and he forgot his phone at home too, so maybe you could bring that with you as well.", he said. "Of course! I'll just quickly grab a bite to eat and then I'm on my way.", I promised. "Oh and Line? I'm sure he'd be happy if you could stay with him for a bit. If he really needs surgery, he won't be able to do shows for a while. He's pretty bummed about that at the moment, so it would be great if you could cheer him up a little bit.", Watse mentioned. "Yes of course. Poor Martijn... I'll be there soon! And tell him I said to keep his head up, okay? Thank you, Watse!", I answered. "Thanks Line, see you in a bit!", he ended the conversation.
