When he got up on stage, the crowd started to cheer. Martijn had replaced his suit with a pair of ripped jeans and his classic Garrix t-shirt. He put his hand up high in the air, while holding the microphone. I could see how he was playing the melody with his hands in the air. He looked so strong and powerful and I just couldn't believe it all. Was this really just happening? I was completely overwhelmed. Before I knew it, Martijn played his last track and finished up the set. He didn't even get the chance to come back to our table afterwards, as the next award was announced. The presenter opened the envelope with the winner and said: "And the award for "Best Electronic Artist" goes toooooo....Mr. Martin Garrix!!!" Almost breathless, but buzzing with happiness, Martijn re-entered the stage to accept his well-deserved second award. When he held the trophy triumphantly in the air, saying thank you to his fans, I blew him a kiss and saw his face light up. I was just so damn proud of him. It took him a while until he finally got back to our table. He had changed back into his suit, but left his jacket in the backstage room. In his hands, he proudly carried his second trophy. "Martijn!", I quickly got up to be the first one to hug him. "Baby.", he said gently and caressed my hair, "How did you enjoy the show?" "It was amazing! You did so good!", I replied, "Can you believe, this was my first show? It feels like I've known you forever and I've never been to a show." "Really?", Martijn exclaimed, "That is crazy. I didn't even realize that. You will need to come to so many more. No choice, I will make you. And I swear, it's gonna be amazing. I'm so damn happy you're here with me. I want this feeling more often!" "I will! I promise!", I replied. Martijn then quickly hopped on to hug all the other people from his team. After just a little while longer, the ceremony had ended. Together with the whole team, we went to the backstage area for the after-party. Another DJ was playing, which took the pressure of Martijn's shoulders. That way, he was able to concentrate on what he deserved: Celebrating his success with his loved ones. The whole team was happy and enjoying the night. I trailed back a little, watching the celebrations from the outside. After a bit of time, I found myself on the side of Martijn's dad. He smiled at me and when he realized, that my glass was empty, he asked: "Line, darling. I see your glass is empty. Can I get you anything else to drink?" "Thank you, Gerard. That is very thoughtful of you. I'd like some more sparkling wine, if you don't mind.", I answered. "Sure, darling. I'll get it for you.", he said with another smile. When he handed me the glass, he asked: "So, how are you enjoying yourself tonight? There's so much going on, right?" I nodded my head: "It's actually the first show I've ever seen from Martijn. Can you believe that? The evening was simply amazing. I would have never ever expected...", then I turned around, pointing at all my surroundings, "All of this. It's just crazy." "I'm really glad you're enjoying it. My son was so happy when he told me that he would be bringing yourself with him for the event. He put more effort in trying to make it a nice trip for you than anything else, believe me. He kept talking and talking about it. You're making him really happy, darling.", Gerard explained. "That is so good to hear! I'm so happy I met Martijn. He is so different from all the others out there. He just cares so much.", I tried to describe. Just as his dad wanted to reply, Martijn appeared by my side. He wrapped his arm around my waist and said: "Hey Pops. Look how beautiful my girl is." Then, he turned to me, with an even bigger smile: "You're wonderful. Did I ever tell you that?" "You're even more wonderful.", I laughed, "And you know what? Today, your mom told me all the sweet little stories about you, when you were a kid." "Haha oh nooooo...", he laughed, "I will really have to ask your mom..." Then his voice abruptly broke and instead of finishing his sentence, he said: "Oh no, I'm so sorry. I didn't think it through. I'm sorry, Baby." I shook my head: "Don't worry, it's fine." When I turned my head, I saw Gerard's questioning look over to his son. It was not Martijn's fault at all. "It's just... My mom passed away about a year ago.", I explained to Gerard, "She was suffering from Leukemia. But I know she wouldn't want me to be sad... So my dad and I are making the best of it. We're really close." "I'm so sorry to hear that.", Gerard replied in his calm voice, "But it's good to know that you and your dad are keeping up so well. I'd actually really love to meet him one day. And, if you ever need some more people by your side, Karin and I will always support you as well. You're with our son, so you're family. Don't forget that, alright Darling?"
