Several weeks had passed by, after I had sent that last text to Martijn. It felt good, I wouldn't let myself be rushed into a crazy adventure, of which I had no control over. Anna had gone out on a few more dates with Julian and they were currently somewhere between "one night stand" and "We'll get married tomorrow". So, nothing new.

One day, during my lecture in Accounting (which I hated by the way), I found myself scrolling through Martijn's social media channels. On twitter, I stumbled across one tweet posted two days ago:

"Wish I knew what your emerald eyes are seeing today. Hope it is a lot of sunshine."

I flashed it to Anna, who was sitting next to me and said: "Anna! Look. Do you think... Like is there a chance he's referring to me? It's probably just song lyrics right? Or some other girl. I mean, my eyes are not emerald anyways." She shot me a long gaze and then said: "Girl! Finally! I still don't understand why you shut him down like that. Julian said Martijn hasn't made such an effort for a girl in a long time. Of course he's referring to you! I mean look at ya." Anna! It's always Julian said this, Julian said that. But still, somehow she might have a point. I scrolled through the comments. They were full of teenage girls describing what they saw today and discussing whether he referred to them because their eyes were like "soooo emerald". A few celebrity newsflash sites found themselves wondering about the tweet as well. "So what should I do now?", I asked Anna helplessly, "I mean why would I know if he still wants to see me? And I'm still not sure what I want, too, I guess." "You sure are sure what you want. I mean look at you sitting here. If you wouldn't care about him, you wouldn't mind the tweet at all. Come on, it's not too hard to make a first step. AND you are the one who shut him down in the first place. So go and text him. Let him know you saw it.", she responded emphatically. "You sure?", I asked. She gave me hug and said: "Go for it. It'll do you good. Believe your best friend, okay?" I sighed and nodded: "Okay, I'll let him know. Today after the lecture, when we're back in the dorm. I promise. Thank you, Anna."

Later that evening, I let myself fall down onto my bed, when we had gotten back to our dorm room. I put my headphones on and started to craft a message for him.

"Tijn? I know I messed up. It was rude how I treated you back then. I'm really sorry. And because you asked: I did see a lot of sunshine today. What did your blue eyes see? Thinking of you. Line"

I showed the message to Anna, and after her approval, I pressed 'send'. And then, I waited. Nothing happened. The whole evening. Anna decided to distract me by watching a movie together, which actually worked quite well. When the movie was finished, I grabbed my phone and looked the message back up. He had seen it. An hour ago, but no reply. "What's up?", she asked when she saw the expression on my face. "Did I mess up?", I asked her, "He read the text an hour ago, but still hasn't responded. I..." Anna hopped over to my bed and put her arms around me: "I'm sure he's just very busy. You did great, sweetie. I'm sure he'll get back to you." It felt so good to have her by my side. I hugged her back and then we went to sleep. Before closing my eyes, I checked my phone for a last time. No notification. Nothing.
