16 - Don't let me go

"Let's get out of here. Now.", Martijn commanded, leading the way to the outside area without a further word. I followed him, while Julian trailed behind a little. Outside, Martijn pushed me down on one of the benches in quite a rough way. I had never seen him like this before. While I was sitting there, still not able to grasp what just had happened, he kept pacing up and down in front of me. Suddenly he stopped and his blue eyes looked at me straight. I still hadn't been able to speak a word. "What the fuck, Line? I really thought that you and I, we had a thing. That there was chemistry between us, that you were different than all these fame whores and bitches out there. But hell how could I be so wrong? I'm out of the country for two weeks and you already got yourself a new guy? Like what the fuck is wrong with you?", he said, just loud enough so I could hear him. Oh my gosh. This all went in the completely wrong direction. Tears filled up my eyes and I said: "No, Tijn, it's not like that. Please, let me explain!" But he just shook his head and continued in his anger: "I really wanted to ask you to be my girlfriend. I was ready to let you into my life. But I'm glad I didn't. I wanted to surprise you tonight, but all I get is you almost getting fucked by this dickhead. Hell, I should just leave." "Tijn, please stay!", I cried and started to sob uncontrollably. It all came back up in me. All the pain Toby had caused, and now I was even losing Martijn because of him. Just in that moment, I heard another familiar voice. "Martijn! Stop it.", I heard Anna say. She came up running, together with Julian, who pulled Martijn aside. Anna sat down next to me and wrapped me into a big hug: "Line, sweetie, are you alright? I just saw Toby by the bar and then Martijn's deadly expression and.... Seems I just came in the right moment.", she asked. "You're a hero Anna.", I said between my tears, "I just met Toby, and it was horrible. Martijn came to save me, but now he won't listen to me and believes, I have a thing with Toby and... it's all just horrible." Then I started to sob again. Anna jumped up and ran towards Julian, who was trying to calm Martijn down. They talked a little and then she grabbed Martijn by the wrist, who reluctantly followed her. "Okay and now you go and let her explain. It's not like you think it is.", she commanded. She pushed Martijn to sit down next to me and then took a few steps back. "So, what do you want me to hear?", Martijn asked, still super disappointed. "Tijn.", I said with a sob, "It's not like you think. That guy, Toby, he is my ex-boyfriend. I broke up with him about two months ago, because he... well he cheated on me several times and even worse: he got drunk so many times, he was beating me and forcing me to have sex against my will and.... Today, he came up to me, saying I was still his... and god knows what else he had planned. I'm so sorry you thought I had a thing with him. It's not like that. Not at all. He scares me." Then I started to cry again. Almost immediately after my words, the cold expression in Martijn's face fell. I looked at him from my teary eyes and then just buried my face into his chest, crying even more. He embraced me, holding me tight: "Line, oh my gosh, I am soooo sorry. I didn't know that he was your ex, and even worse, I didn't know what he has done to you. I'm sooo sorry I thought all that. I was just scared to lose you, I guess. You're safe with me, alright? I'll care for you, I'll protect you. I promise. Will you forgive me for being so ignorant?" "Yes, yes of course I will. You're all that I want. Please don't let me go.", I replied. "I won't, I promise.", he said, hugging me even tighter, "Also, please forget all the mean things I just said. You didn't deserve that at all. I was just so scared." I just cuddled a little closer into his arms. Then, suddenly, I looked up and said: "Tijn? Back there with Toby, you know, you called me your girlfriend. Were you... for real when you said that?" Martijn gave me a smile and said: "At least that's what I had wished for. But I don't want to rush you Line, just know I'm ready. It's all up to you, beautiful." He then placed a little kiss on my forehead, which made me fall for him once more. After that, I allowed myself a gaze in Anna's direction. She was standing there with Julian hugging her from behind and both had a proud smile on their faces. Anna was a real hero, without her god knows what would've happened with Martijn and I that night.
