Beep.
"Please, don't give up."
Go away.
Beep. Beep.
"Please wake up."
It's too peaceful to wake up.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"I love you."
Her eyes slowly opened to meet the dim room. The only light came from the crack in the curtains of the room. Her whole body ached terribly as she shifted in the bed. A sharp pain made her bite back a scream as she forced her self to sit up.
"You're awake?"
She looked at the direction of the voice as she saw her best friend. His hair was a mess and the bags under his eyes were large. His clothes were wrinkled as if he had been laying down for a while.
"Na..m..joon?" Aera barely could make a sound with her dry throat
"Oh thank god you recognize me." Namjoon sighed in relief as he approached the girl. He pulled her into a a gentle hug. "I thought you wouldn't open your eyes again. You had me so worried." Aera felt the back of her hospital gown dampen as Namjoon cried. He calmed himself down and went to call a doctor and get a glass of water.
After some checks and a glass of water, the two were left alone. Namjoon could only stare at her, hoping she wouldn't notice anything. He helped her lie down and made sure she was comfortable.
"If you need anything else I'm just on the couch okay? I haven't slept much yet." Namjoon said. Aera tried to reach out to him, only to grab the hem of his shirt.
"What happened to Taehyung? How long have I been out?" Aera asked. Namjoon sighed and pulled a chair nearby. He was dead tired but he couldn't leave her hanging.
"You've been in a coma for almost a month. Your body is healing quickly thanks to Jisung's magic. As soon as she woke up and found out you need a kidney to replace the damaged one she offered herself. She said something about it growing back anyway." Namjoon explained. Aera smiled and made a mental note to thank her friend. "Taehyung decided to drop everything. He gave me the information about the Nightwalkers and then disappeared with Yoongi and Ara. Ara is actually pregnant, 3 months to be exact. Well 4 months now."
Namjoon could recall the moment so clearly. The moment Taehyung raised his arms in surrender and burst into tears. After what seemed like forever the couple walked away promising to never show themselves again. Yoongi followed after them saying he had responsibility over Taehyung. He promised to come back when Taehyung can handle himself to pay for his crimes.
"That's good to know. I hope Taehyung's fresh start will be okay." Aera said. "Where's everyone? Where's Jungkook?"
"A-ah I don't know where they are." Namjoon said. He averted his gaze to his hands and fiddled with his fingers. Aera's eyes narrowed.
"Don't lie to me Kim Namjoon. You lied to me once and look where it took us." Aera warned. Namjoon gulped and looked up to his best friend.
"Jungkook's on trial. I heard today is his last hearing and if it ends bad, he'll get death penalty." Namjoon said. "Right now, Jin, Jimin and Jisung are working together to save him but the court is using you against him."
"Take me there right now." Aera immediately said. "Let's go." She yanked the chords connected to the heart monitor off her chest and removed the oxygen mask.
"What the hell are you doing you aren't even—" Namjoon shut himself up when Aera turned to him with a horrifying glare. "At least keep the drip you need it. Let me get you some clothes."
Namjoon quickly prepared and left her to get ready. Once done, he placed the do not disturb on the door before locking it. He carried Aera on his back, making sure the drip was still connected and hidden in his jacket. He jumped from the window and made his way to the court.
Once there, they quietly slipped in and took a seat. In the middle stood Jungkook, chained. He hung his head low as the murmurs of people surrounded him.
"Your honor, he was not in the right state of mind at the time the crimes were committed. There is already evidence of him being abused and brainwashed." Jin argued. His face was red from anger, alarming the two.
"But still he committed the crime." The prosecutor argued.
"We are not denying that he committed the crime your honor we are just stating the fact that he did not intend to do it— he wasn't even aware. He could not recognize even us!" Jimin said. Honestly, his patience was hanging by a thread and if it weren't for Jisung's hand over his he would have flipped the table over.
"He is still a hybrid dangerous to our world." The prosecutor said.
"Listen up you dum—" Jisung covered Jimin's mouth and gave him a warning stare.
"With all due respect but judging him and being biased because he is different from the rest is not a valid judgement. Shouldn't it be fair?" Jisung said. The prosecutor and judge shifted in their seat at the witch's statement.
"He isn't a monster!"
All eyes turned to Aera while Namjoon cursed under his breath. He may have made the wrong choice this time. He felt the burning gaze of his three friends but noticed the prosecutor looking surprised.
"Wasn't she supposed to be in a coma? I even paid the doctors." Namjoon heard. He clicked his tongue and looked towards his friends who seem to have heard it.
"He's sweet and a good person. He's very respectful and mature. If you think he's dangerous then you're wrong. I tamed him." Aera said. She left Namjoon's side and limped towards them. "Because of Jisung's spell I can control him. My blood can help him."
Aera nearly collapsed but Jungkook was quick to catch her despite the chain pulling on his foot. He helped her up and kissed the crown of her head.
"I thought you would never wake up. I wouldn't forgive myself if you had died back then." Jungkook muttered. During the month he were gone he was in prison. Every now and then Jin would break him out to let him see his lover. "I was supposed to get death penalty and I accept that. I was hoping you'd wake up when I'm gone and Namjoon could convince you it was a bad dream."
"I don't want to lose you." Aera murmured.
"Hybrids can't have a blood bank." The prosecutor said. "Why would we believe his lover? Would that not be too biased? There's no evidence."
"Actually, I can provide an explanation for that." Jisung spoke up. "When I sealed Jungkook in that place I chose a random bloodline that would serve as the only blood he could drink and unseal him. It so happened that Aera was the chosen one to unseal him. She is not classified under any of the factions for humans. The mark she has shows that she belongs to Jungkook."
The court was stunned at the revelation. Whispers bounced around in the crowd as the judge ordered for silence. This was a concept that may put Jungkook in reconsideration, and possibly, other hybrids who are hidden away.
"Is there a way we may upgrade that?" The judge asked. "A way we may add to our current system?"
"With discussions and proper procedure it is possible to do so, your Honor." Jimin answered.
"The hearing will be put on hold and this new topic will be given attention. Until then, the accused shall stay no farther than 2 meters from his blood bank to ensure the safety of others." The judge said. "This topic will determine the verdict for the accused. Meeting adjourned.
