"Now that we're all back together like the Brady Bunch family we are, can you explain what's going on, now?" I asked, sitting down on the lumpy couch in the abandoned log cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Whoever was following us back in town lost us on the confusing trail here. We were now hidden and away from all society. Thank God I'm not dependant on a cellphone or internet, or friends. Though I do believe Jeremy deserves an explanation of some sort. I've been going off to places most of the time, and being secretive, and he's been in the dark and worried about me. I'm so sure of it.
Jonathan gave us all weary looks. He was tired with running away and always having to hide. The secrets he's been keeping were pulling him down as well. Maybe, when this is all over, I'll convince him to take my aunt on a getaway vacation. And when they come back, hopefully they'll come back engaged.
What? I want my aunt and Jonathan to be happy. They at least deserve a happy ending.
"I don't know where to start," Jonathan sighed. Everything was all quiet in here. "I'll start from the beginning. It was way back just a couple of weeks before you were recruited. I was called to the Director's office so I could be briefed on Dominic's case. I got there a bit early while the Director was on the phone, and I overheard some stuff about him going to meet someone and exchage a package.
I managed to retrieve the time and place of the package exchange, and after I was briefed on the case, I followed the Director to the place of exchange, of course I was hidden well, and it turns out that Dominic's not the supplier of the drugs. That's just a front for everyone else." Jonathan shook his head and stared at the wooden floor.
"It was the Director..." Artie finished for him. Jon pointed a finger at him, "Bingo."
"I wasn't going to get myself hung by calling him out, I was planning to expose him on his own, but of course he goes and tells me to recruit a newbie to replace the loss of our late agent. And then I find you," He looks at me.
"So let me get this straight; you've been trying to get the Director caught red handed, and then he sets his little minion to pose as a drug lord to throw you off his trail? To keep you busy from coming at him. He knows you're in on his dirty little secret." Cody voice all of our thoughts.
As much as I was silently taking in the shock that we'd been all lied to, somewhere in my head was telling me that it never really trusted the Director in the first place, so the shock was there, but not all there.
"What's our plan now?" I interrupted their train of thoughts- or at least I did due to the silence that had fallen upon us.
Jon and Cody were the only ones who were looking at me. "Well, there's not much we can really do except stay out of sight. Now I suggest we all get some rest, though unfortunately there are only two rooms, so I think the three of you should share a room, unless one of you wants the couch." He smirked, banging his fist on the hard couch.
"I think I'll go take the room..." Cody winced at the sound of the springs from under the couch. Artie nodded in agreement, and since I really didn't feel like sleeping in the same room as those two, I called the couch.
"Are you sure? It's really uncomfortable." Jon bounced on the couch, up and down, almost sounding like it was about to break into pieces.
"I'm not sharing a room with them. I'm pretty sure they both snore like bears. No thank you." I jerked my thumb at the two boys.
Aunt Chloe raised an eyebrow, "Why not the both of us share a room, and the three guys get the other room?" she suggested.
My eyes did their best not to flicker forwards and backwards between aunt Chloe and Jon to not give away my matchmaking plans, so I shook my head before I let anything slip. "No offense, aunt Chloe, but you talk a lot in your sleep. I'm afraid I might end up putting a pillow on your head to shut you up. Besides, Jon seems like the only one who can handle you."
