My Shining Star

If this was an appropriate time, I'd laugh at the stupid look on Cody's face when he saw me. His expression was a mix of shock, relief, and regret. I just hope that regret is for knocking me out and making it look like I'm a complete selfish bitch who wants to save herself from a death mission.

"C-Carter?" He finally managed to say.

I rolled my eyes. "Nah, it's her super sexier twin sister."

"Still sarcastic, I see..." He muttered under his breath.

"Did you expect me to be a completely different person when you saw me again? Cause if so, I'm sorry to disappoint you that I'm not a fake Barbie that'll fall to your feet." I sneered.

Dominic interrupted before Cody could say a thing. "This is really touching with the whole reunion thing, but I'm going to have to cut this short." He pointed the gun at me. "It's either you surrender yourselves to me, or else her life line gets cut shorter each time you resist."

Cody took a step forward, and Jon was about to stop him, but he was too late. Dominic cocked the gun and shot me in the leg. I screamed in pain, and started to cuss the rainbow- which went on for about a good two minutes.

Blood was pouring out of my wound, and I was biting my tongue from screaming out in agony, but it was useless, since I was also drawing blood from my tongue too. Just freaking great. I looked up at Jon and Cody, and they were both frozen on the spot. Cody was looking at the wound in my shoulder, and Jon was thinking quietly.

To break the silence, Jon's team burst into the room with all their guns aiming everywhere. But what surprised me most was that my aunt was in the center of the team, with a pistol aimed at Dominic.

"Honestly Jonathan, you should really listen and wait. One day you might get everyone killed with your stubborness." She said without taking her eyes off the psychotic man with the gun still aimed at me.

Her eyes hardened when she saw that he had shot me, and gritted her teeth. "Listen up, bucko. I'm giving you exactly ten seconds to let go of my niece, and turn yourself in, or else I'm going to have to shoot your freaking ass." Except, she didn't say 'freaking'.

Dominic chuckled. "As threatening as that sounds...no."

"One..." She started counting.

"Keep on counting, and she gets the bullet right next to her heart." He growled.

Guards started to pour into the room, and they charged at the team, Jon, and Cody. While this warzone was going on, Aunt Chloe had her pistol aiming at his forehead. She saw me staring, and sent a familiar wink.

Which meant she had something up her sleeve.

Meaning, that whatever happens, it's cause she had it all planned out.

She moved in closer, and I waited for the impact of the bullet to my flesh, but it never came. Instead, she was crumpled to the ground, clutching her ribs, but she sent a smirk towards me, and glanced at the window. Right outside the large glass window, was a flaming red blur that crashed into the window, knocking Dominic down onto the ground.

Glasses rushed up to me and untied me. "Okay, come on, Carter. We gotta get going before more guards come." He put an arm around my shoulder, and helped me up. "Can you walk?"

I tried to move forward but my pain shot up my arm, so I shook my head. Jon came up to me with Cody right beside him. "Max, go with the rest, make sure that we all get out of here soon. Don't forget to take Chloe with you. Artie just informed me that Dominic's been extra careful. He's got a bomb somewhere in this building that'll go off in approximately ten minutes. Secure the area, I'll take her."
