19 - Protect

Nasa greenhouse silang dalawa ni Rj. She was surprised to see a picnic blanket waiting for them.

"picnic, really?"

"it's more fun eating like this."

"fun yourself."

"please just agree with me. Walang masama kumain ng ganito no." sabi naman ng kasama nya.

Kinuha naman nya ang bag na bitbit ni Rj at inilabas na ulit ang pagkaing dala nya.

They started eating without any conversation in between. But not until Rj started asking

"What do you want to talk about?"

"I'll be heading back to US next week."

Napatigil si Rj sa pagkain at napatitig sa kasama.

"Next week? For?"

"There's a little problem in the office. Dad cant travel coz he still needs to process the transfer here."

"So you'll not be around for how long?" Rj asked while picking some food.

"for 2 weeks or so. I dont know too." Sagot naman ni Maine.

"Ok, that will be fine." sabi ni Rj sabay subo ng kanin.

"i want us engaged when im back." diretsang sabi naman ng isa na ikinagulat ni Rj. napaubo pa ito dahil sa nasamid sya sa nginunguya nya.

"Are you really trying to kill me Maria Victoria?" sabay inom ni Rj ng tubig. "You're dangerous to be with!"

"kasalanan ko bang di ka nag-iingat sa kinakain mo? You're the dangerous one Richard, you're the one killing yourself because of your stupidity." sagot naman ni Mavie

"It's not about the food i was eating or the stupidity that i have. Its because of your frankness!" dipensa naman ni Rj.

Kumibit balikat lang si Mavie habang napakain naman ulit si Rj. Tahimik lang ang dalawa hanggang sa makatapos sila ng kain.

"I'll be going to Zambales tonight. Would you like me to bring you something?"

"What are you playing now Mavie?"

"were not on a game to play Faulkerson. Im just asking you as a collegue but if you dont want to have fresh vegetables and sweet mangoes of Zambales then i wont bring any for you. As simple as that." Mavie said as she packed the lunchbox they used to its bag.

"mangoes and organic veggies would be nice." Rj said as he is folding the picnic mat.

"gusto rin pala aarte pa." bulong no Mavie

"may sinasabi ko?" sabi naman ni Rj

"wala, sabi ko aalis na ako at mag aayos pa ako ng gamit ko. One more thing, i'll be here after 2 days then you will be the one to bring me to the airport. Dad and Kuyas will be staying in Zambales. And also for people to see us together more. I think Mrs. Saldero will be having the same flight with me. They'll be seeing us together." She said as they head back to the elevator.

"Very thorough Maria Victoria." RJ just said

"My plan, my ways Faulkerson. Now, i need to go home and pack my things."

"I'll go walk you out. I'll just tell Dad that you cant go with us."

"What? Go with you? Where?"

"I told him that we'll be having lunch later and everything happened so i'll tell him your not coming with us."

Mavie looked at Rj with a deadly glare.

"Baliw ka ba?  Your dad is expecting us and you just told me now? kung saan paalis na ako?"

"We can always cancel... Hindi naman importante yun."

Mavie just shut her eyes then sighed. She then fished her phone and called someone.

"Yes, Na, could you please pack my things? The usual things i always bring during travel. Yes, the purple one. I cant be home early eh. I have a coffee date with Rj and his Dad." sabay tingin ng masakit kay Rj.

Yes please. no,just go without me, i can drive. Yes, i'll be fine i promise or i'll ask Kuya Mon to drive for me later. ok, kiss Dad and Baste for me. Bye, Love you too."

Napangiti naman si Rj. It's very for him to see Mavie's soft side and its always because of her family. Nawala naman ang ngiti nya ng lumingon sa kanya si Mavie na masakit parin ang tingin sa kanya. 

"Do something like this again and i'll be dragging you to your grave Faulkerson. Understand?"

NApatango nalang si Rj. Imbes na sa garahe ay sa office ni Rj sila napadiretso.

"Do you wanna do something or want something? I just need to finish signing these papers then were going home."

"Home?" Mavie asked.

"I won't be meeting Dad for coffee wearing this. So, we'll drop by my house first then we'll meet Dad after."

"Are you not living together?"

"I have my own unit just some blocks away from here while Dad is staying in our house in Laguna."

"So you mean, your asking your old man to come and meet you here in Manila?"

"That's inconvenient for him right? but that's what he wanted. Dad loves to drive around Manila's traffic. And he'll be sulking if he'll hear you calling him old man."

Maine just rolled her eyes as while Rj just smirked. He then went to his table to do some of her work while MAvie was busy typing something on her phone.

Silence enveloped the whole office. Rj is busy and Mavie's silent. almost an hour later, Rj stands up to get some water when he saw Mavie sleeping peacefully on the couch. He just nod his head and absentmindedly smiled at the scene he saw.

He dimmed the light,went to a room and took a blanket. 

He took the phone out of Mavie's hands and cover her body with a blanket. 

Tinitigan nya ito. She looked so peaceful, soft and innocent in her slumber. Far from the strong and annoying woman she is when awake.

"I dont know why, but i will protect you no matter what."
