36: Demon lord of the depths

Kuzuhamon smiles, starting to cry. "Thank you, (Y/N)... I'm ever so grateful to you..." You smile, hugging her and returning the armor. A red glimmer falls down from the sky to your hands. It's the other half of the favor of love. You put it away, filling the other half of the appearing heart mark on your chest before it turns grey. "I suppose I should take this half back to him... I don't want to see him though, but I have a feeling I must." The digivice opens up a map, telling you to get to the direction of the nearby, lonely sea. You sigh. "I guess we must go there. but first, I'll change my clothes to something more comfortable." She smiles, reverting back to her maid form.

You change your clothes back to what you were wearing the day you came to Pride's tower, releasing your hair and putting it up on a ponytail. Kuzuhamon smiles, watching you dress up. "Are you going back to Gluttony's place?" she asks. You look down. "I don't want to but I feel like I must. Something important awaits me there." She nods. "It's your destiny to return, am I right?" she asks. You pick up the code key of pride, examining it. "It has to have something to do with why the code key won't accept me." She stands there silently.

You're done so you start walking towards the edge of the distant cliff. The ash-like sand ends at the cliff. You stand there with Kuzuhamon. "How are you going to get through the water?" she asks. You form wings again and put your left hand on her shoulder. She gains wings too. "I don't know how, but I can give you the ability to form wings now too." She looks at you, taking back her armored form. "I suppose it's because of our bond of friendship." You take her hand, starting to float upwards. "Let's go."

She flies with you to the direction the digivice is showing. The land seems to get further and further. "I wonder if we're really going to his tower. It's like we're taking a detour" you wonder. She stays silent and wonders for a bit. "I think it's Envy's tower this way. I suppose you need to gather that one too" she says. You look at her before the digivice informs you you're there. There's nothing around you or near you but there is some kind of platform under you. You land there. It's not too warm nor too cold so you decide sitting down there would be nice.

It's getting late and Kuzuhamon opens up the door on top. You enter with her. "Hello? Envy? Servants? Is anybody here?" she asks. You look around, noticing this is a room with a lot of beds. You guess it's either the servants' quarters or some place visitors can stay since the lower floors seem to be flooding with water despite one floor and that's the floor under this one. You sit down on a bed, noticing it's super comfy. But when you do, the door clanks.

A digimon with blue and white overalls walks into the room. "Are you two the new servants we ordered? Quick, we need to satisfy our lord! Do you have any abilities? They will prove useful, trust me."

You follow the Divermon downstairs, using your digivice to form your energy into diver's gear so you can breathe. She turns her form back into the one of a maid's, forming a magical bubble on her head in order to breathe. The water envelops you both but somehow it's not dark even if you reach the lower floors.

You're escorted to the lowest floor, reaching the fourth demon lord's quarters. It welcomes you with a dignified old man's voice. "Welcome. It's always nice to get new servants. My name is Leviamon, I'm the demon lord of Envy." You and Kuzuhamon bow to him. "It's our pleasure to be in your presence, o' great lord of jaundice" she says. You smile, raising your head. "We seek your envious radiance's help" you add.

He stares at you for a moment before opening his huge mouth. "I see you're blessed with three favors of our world and cursed with the sin of lust. What kind of help can I offer?" he answers with another question. Kuzuhamon bows her head lightly as she answers him. "I suppose what the blessed device with this human tries to tell us is to gather all seven code keys of sins. I believe you're with the key, honored lord of the depths." The red wingless, dragon-formed digimon starts wondering.

"I suppose we could, only if you agree to an exchange of sorts" he answers. Your eyes light up. "I'm glad you're accepting this so quickly. You must be the most reasonable one out of the demon lords" you say, smiling in a humble way. "I'm glad you peasants agree to my part of the promise without hearing me out first. Very well. Bring Kuzuhamon to me, Divermon." Your smile fades away as they take a hold of Kuzuhamon's arms, bringing her right in front of Leviamon's parted jaws. "In order for me to obtain the power of the favor of friendship this digimon possesses, I shall ingest her data. After feeling the power surging inside me, I shall give you my code key."

You begin worrying, starting to struggle a bit before you see an ensuring smile on Kuzuhamon's lips. Her spirit speaks to you: I'll do anything to help you, my one and only friend. Tears start welling up from your eyes but they disappear in the water. Leviamon eats Kuzuhamon's body whole and the emblem of the favor on your left hand turns grey. A rage wells up inside you.

"You're a liar... You knew that it would put off one of my favors and you wouldn't lose your status... Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up Leviathan."
