CHAPTER 25

Brad arrived home at eleven-thirty and Evie was already there. "What took you so long? I came right home like you asked?"

"Sorry, it took longer than I thought." Brad set his packages on the kitchen table.

"What the heck is all this?"

"This is part of our answer." Brad handed her some of the packages.

"Very funny," she said sarcastically. "This looks like the latest problem!"

"No really. Are the folks sleeping?" he asked in a lowered voice.

"I guess. They were already upstairs when I came home."

"Good, then let's get all this downstairs and I'll explain as we go."

Brad told his sister all he had heard but she was noticeably skeptical. They went into the lab and Brad found the report his parents had referred to.

"Hey Brad, what's wrong with you?" Evie asked as she punched her brother's arm. "You know we're not supposed to be into stuff in the lab without mom or dad's permission."

"Well, as they say. This is a matter of life and death...Jon's and who knows how many others. so, I think we need to."

"Why don't we go upstairs and talk with mom and dad, first. Let's tell them what you heard and what we found and ..."

"Evie, have you flipped? How many reasons would you like? mom's pregnant, she could freak and lose this baby! Or, how 'bout, dad? First, he'd kill me for eavesdropping, then he'll give me his usual lecture about what it means to be a responsible scientist. C'mon Evie, this is our fight and if we're going to help Jon, we need to do this on our own. Look, I know this may be drastic but just read the report...you'll see... it's no different than takin' the stuff your California body building buddies take, except this is proven safe and now it's even legal."

"Okay. I'll read the report but let's at least keep it quiet just in case they're still up...and by the way what's in all these bags?"

"Food! Lots and lots of food!"
