Martin walked back into his office still bewildered by Dr. Donatez's mysterious arrival. "Rosie, pull up Dr. Donatez's 'Oneness' security clearance and get me whatever else you can."

"I'm way ahead of you. I thought you might want more, so I did some additional checking. But, other than her 'Oneness,' all information is classified, 'Secure Eyes Only.'"

Getting annoyed, Martin barked, "Since when did that stop you! Hack into the files if you must but get me more information on that woman!"

"I'm doing so as we speak. You don't have to jump down my circuits!"

Martin sat down at his desk, "Sorry! Proceed with the search and open a com link to Captain Edderly.

Martin asked her, "Did you finish the security protocol numbers from before this fiasco?

"Yes, Dr. Kane, I know this has been a very tough day for you but you do remember I am a 'multi-task, multi-problem solver, multi'..."

Martin, interrupted, "Yes Rosie just get me Jack!"

"Uh, Excuse me. She did Dr. Kane, I'm here."

Martin heard Edderly's familiar voice. "Rosie patched me through to this channel."

"Oh, good!" Was all Martin could say.

"I have implemented the new codes Rosie provided and we are secure Dr. Kane, however, there's something really strange. The two exterior guards reported sighting Dr. Donatez leaving the building and so they approached the porch landing of the Cottage to escort her from the premises...but, suddenly she was, well, ... just gone... They claimed to have been blinded momentarily by the torrential rain crashing against their faces and when they reached the porch, she just wasn't anywhere to be found.

"Did the guards see anything that might explain all this?"

"Negative Sir! They are totally bewildered by the occurrence."

"Have we determined that she's no longer on the grounds?"

Affirmative, the satellite uplink, all scanners and security programs indicate all clear."

"I want a full report."

"Yes sir! As we speak, we're examining the perimeter videos to ascertain how this Dr. Donatez breached our security."

"Well, she didn't get on and off the property by clicking her heels... and I want to know how this was possible."

"Copy Dr. Kane. I will personally re-check all systems and report."

Martin took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He needed to just sit! He closed his eyes and let his mind escape to a simpler time.

He was transported to his last semester at college. He and Vivian were in the same advanced genetics class. They both shared a passion for herbal research and alternative medicine, which led them to become research partners and eventually close friends. Martin, being extremely analytical, had never allowed himself to become passionate about anything in life, except his work. By the time he realized he'd fallen in love with Vivian, it was too late. He was sure his methodical ways made him a good scientist but not a good love interest--so he made sure to hide his feelings. He convinced himself his studious looks, would prevent a beautiful girl like Vivian from seeing him as anything other than a friend.
