Five

Jack pounded on the door to Katherine's apartment.

"Where is she!?" He yelled after Katherine opened the door.

"Nice to see you too Jack." Jack pushed past her as he saw Ari in the reading a book on the couch.

"You said you'd stay away from him!" Ari had a guilty look on her face.

"I tried to! I really did!"

"You showed up at his apartment!"

"I can explain!"

"No! You can't! All I asked was that you stay away from my friend."

"And I will!" Jack gave her a look (I didn't know how to clarify this so I'm just saying it here. I'm picturing the look jack gives Davey after he says lighten up no one died). "Starting now."

"Right and how do you plan to do that?"

"He doesn't know where I work, he doesn't know I live with Katherine, he has no way of finding me!"

"It doesn't matter! What Davey needed was to forget about you, and he can't do that if he knows you're back!" Ari sighed, feeling guilty.

"How is he?"

Earlier that day

"Has anyone seen Davey?" Jack asked as the newsies we're getting their papers. Everyone just shrugged.

"He's never late, what if somethin' happened."

"I'm here!" Jack turned around to see Davey and Les. "I'm sorry I'm late." Jack could tell something was wrong. Davey looked as if he hadn't slept and his face was red as if he had been crying.

"What happened!? Are you okay!?"

"I'm fine," Davey said, looking at his feet.

"Davey what happened?" Jack repeated.

"It's nothing it's just..." Davey noticed all the newsies around them and lowered his voice to a whisper.  "Ari's back in town." His voice was wavering. Jack was speechless. He pulled Davey aside so they could talk in private.

"She...she showed up at my house yesterday. And everything... just everything came back. I just can't stop thinking about her. I'm still in love with her, Jack"

Present

"He's...fine. Just don't see him again, okay?"

"Fine."

"Jack, can I talk to you alone for a second," Katherine asked. Jack nodded and they went to her room to talk.

"If he's fine then why does it matter if Ari sees him?"

"I lied okay? He's not fine. I mean, he hasn't so much as thought about seein' someone else since the break up, because deep down he's still hoping she'll come back to him. And spending time with her will only make it worse."

"But what if they got back together? Isn't that what Davey wants?"

"What if they got together and then she just left him again? I'm worried about him Kath. I'm worried he wouldn't recover this time. When she left him it took a month before he'd even speak to us. What would happen this time?"

"But what if she didn't leave?"

"That's not a chance I'm willing to take."

Sorry for the super short chapter guys this plot is taking longer to develop than I had planned.
