Davey wanted to be angry. He wanted to hate her. After all, he had every reason to. After what happened a year ago, he should've slammed the door in her face without a second thought. But he didn't. Because the second he saw her, everything he felt a year ago came rushing back.

"Davey, I know you weren't expecting to see me here, but please can I come in I'll explain everything I promise." Davey, unable to form words at the moment, just nodded and stepped aside so she could come in. He closed the door behind her and turned to face her.

Davey could immediately tell something was wrong. Something had happened to Ari, and Davey both wanted to comfort her and go and punch whoever made her this upset.

"Ari how– what are you doing here?" was all he could manage to say.

"I'm so sorry Davey I know I shouldn't've just shown up here with no warning but I didn't know what else to do." Ari was breathing heavy as if she had just been running.

"Slow down. Let me get you a glass of water, and then you can tell me what happened." Ari nodded, realizing it was too long a story to explain while still standing in front of his door. He led her to the living room. She was flooded with memories as she walked through the house. She sat down and waited for him to return with a glass of water.

"Ari I didn't even know you were back in town."

"It's pretty recent. I had an issue with work back in New Mexico, so I moved back here."

"You have a job here?" he asked.

"Not yet," she lied. If she told him she worked for The Sun he might ask Katherine about her.  "I have some money saved up from my job in New Mexico. That's what I'm living off of right now."

"Well if you ever need anything..." Davey said.

"Davey, I didn't mean to just randomly show up at your door. I just didn't know where else to go."

"What happened?"

"I was out on a walk, and I noticed someone following me. Just to make sure I kept taking turns but he kept following me. Pretty soon I started running, but my apartment was too far away for me to run all the way there. I remembered that your house was close, so I came here." Davey put a comforting hand on her shoulder. He hated seeing her upset.

"Well you can stay as long as you like," he offered.

"Thanks, but I should be heading home. I'm sure whoever it was is gone now." Davey nodded.

"Let me walk you home."

"Davey really, you don't have to," she started.

"Ari, I just want to make sure you get home safe." Ari didn't protest anymore. Truthfully she was still kind of nervous. And part of her didn't want to say goodbye to Davey just yet.

"This is my stop," Ari said, stopping in front of her building.

"I have a friend who lives in this building. Katherine Plumber. You know her?"

"Doesn't sound familiar," Ari lied. Davey shrugged.

"I should be going. Stay safe." Ari nodded, heading inside.

"Thanks, Davey."

It hurt Davey to leave her, especially since he knew he probably wouldn't see her again. Seeing her again made Davey realize something. He was still in love with her. That's why he hadn't dated anyone since she left. He never stopped loving her in the year she was away. He never fell out of love for her, not for a moment. And now she was back, and Davey made no effort of keeping in touch with her.
