Heeey, author here! So, it's been a while. Yeah, it's... it's been a while.
I haven't told you guys a story in so long.
I need to tell you a story.
Actually, it's just another chapter in this beautiful ongoing story I've got happening here.
But I guess every chapter is kind've a mini story...
So what I said before still stands.
I need to tell you guys a story.
And I will.
So enjoy.
And tell your friends. Let's get this out there.
Okay, okay, here's the chapter, stop yelling at me, nanoda~
Saige's POV:
My right forearm wrapped in a bandage from the hand to the elbow, I slipped my cat-ear hoodie over my head (my usual hoodie was still drying from the downpour last night) and swung open the front door and soak in some of that bright, morning sunshine. Ah, what this town lacked in normalcy, it made up for in beautiful landscapes. Well, mostly.
I stepped out into the dewey, muddy, slippery grass and glanced around the yard, dismayed by the disaster scene laid out before me. The storm had knocked down several branches and twigs. The waterlogged tree limbs littered the ground like the mangled and torn corpses of a great battle, casualties in a war with the weather. I sighed, exasperated, and started picking up boughs, tucking a bundle of the sticks under my arm. Once I could carry no more, I took them back to the fire pit behind the cabin. I tossed them down and brushed the dirt off my hands before returning to clear up more of the debris.
I picked up three more medium-sized twigs before I was interrupted by a sound of the door opening behind me. I turned around to see Angel, wearing one of the large flannel shirts from the closet of the spare bedroom, pushing his way into the open. Behind him, Marceline peered out into the sunlit clearing before scowling and disappearing back inside the cabin.
I waved at Angel, "Morning."
He blinked at me, staring at me like I was some sort of crazy person, or maybe a secret agent from another universe who may or may not be entirely human. What, was I not allowed to be friendly?
I bent down to pick up another branch, "Did you guys sleep okay?"
It was as if it took a moment for him to process what I just said, and I realized he must have only woken up recently, "Oh, um, yeah, thanks. What are you doing?"
"Cleaning the yard," I said, picking up two more fallen warriors and tossing the bunch onto the growing pile of firewood.
I pointed at a rather large branch on the outskirts of the clearing. A bough that big must have put up a real fight. "Hey, can you grab that one and bring it over here?"
Angel saw the branch I was referring to and walked over, picking it up with one hand and chucking it onto the pile like it was nothing.
"Thanks," I said, grabbing four more and adding them to the pit. I straightened, running a hand through my hair and surveying my work. Well, it wasn't perfect, but it was something. Angel and I headed back inside, where Marcy was chillin' on the couch, a can of Pitt Cola in her hand.
