Jerry Davidson swirled the red wine in his glass and set it back down on the dining table without taking a sip. His wife, who's head was always in the clouds, sat on the other end of the table reading some papers. "Is that for work?" He finally asked, hoping for some sort of conversation.

"No." She plainly replied, turning the page to the back.

He nodded as if she was watching him. "Thank you for picking up dinner." Picking up his fork again the black haired man took a large bite of his chicken.

"Oh." Throwing the pages down Sophie leaned forward rubbing her temples, "I talked to Danny this morning."

Chewing quickly Jerry covered his mouth to reply, "He called you back?"

"There's an opening for the chief of staff." She smiled at her husband dryly. "It's in Austin, but I'm sure that isn't a problem for you."

He couldn't believe it! He stared at his plate processing what she had said. A job like that was pure luck, what was surprising however was interest from his wife. Politics always played an interesting part in his life, but she never cared. He always tried to take her to events and talks, but she hated it. "You would be coming with me right?"

"I have a job." She stated scanning her papers again. "There's a man I met yesterday." She paused picking up her wine and taking a swig. "He works at the breakfast kitchen downtown. I think you should take him."

"What would I do with a cook?" Jerry wondered.

"Have him help cook for the homeless or something. It's a good campaign strategy to help Danny win."

Jerry furrowed his brows and loosened his blue tie. That wasn't a horrible idea. Whatever his wife's intentions were, he decided to not care for once. He would work his ass off to get this good job and take her out of this town. That's probably why she had been so distant lately. This town didn't have anything to offer to a woman like Sophie Davidson. She had the looks of a goddess, the attitude of a CEO and the mind of a strategist.

Throwing her pencil down after writing some words Sophie looked over her work proudly, "Maybe tomorrow you and I could go tell him and his family the amazing news."

He smiled slightly, "I would enjoy that Sophie."

"Good." Getting up, she heading towards the bedroom.

"Are you going to bed?" He yelled out.

Slamming the door closed as an answer Jerry sighed and grabbed the whole bottle of wine. He was just meant to spend every night drunk on the couch.

••••••••

Saturday's were Brooke's turn to cook. Her father would sleep in 30 minutes later than he usually was able to and she would prepare a fresh breakfast for the two of them to enjoy. Then they would spend the day cleaning the house and talking about trivial things. It was her favorite day, because she didn't have very many chances to spend time with her father but he always set aside a whole day once a week just for that purpose.

Setting the groceries onto the cabinet Brooke took out the fresh fruits and started washing them in the sink. She loved visiting the farmers market. It smelt amazing and they always provided the sweetest foods. She believed in eating clean because there would be no point to all the cleaning they did if she didn't try to keep her stomach clean as well.

Getting out their wooden chopping board Brooke lined everything out smallest to largest and took her dads favorite knife. Cutting equal slices she wafted the aroma of fresh strawberries towards her. Hearing a knock at the door, she started to put the knife down but continued when she saw her father leave his room to get there first.

"Come in please!"

Trying to listen closely to the commotion in the front, she took the peeled banana and started slicing it slowly.

"What brings you to my house Councilman?"

"Well, I have an offer for you, Mr. Clarke. You are a great chief, and I'll be heading the Austin this Monday to help Danny Philips run for governor. We were hoping to do some cooking for the homeless."

There was a pause before a laugh, "You want me to come help?"

"We do! You were the first person we thought of. You'll be traveling with us, creating the menu and such so each town we visit we can help feed those in need."

"I love Danny. I voted for him last term, but I have a job already."

"I already spoke with your boss it'll be no problem." A female voice said quietly.

Furrowing her brows Brooke turned out of curiosity and widened her eyes to see Mrs. Davidson standing there smiling at her.

Quickly tuning away Brooke looked down at the blood on her hands. She must have cut herself on accident.

"I'm going to go say hello to Brooke, why don't you two go outside and discuss the details?" Mrs. Davidson suggested waving them out. Once the door closed the blonde walked over to the kitchen and tilted her head. Brooke wasn't moving, only staring at the red liquid that dropped from her fingers.

Letting her heels click on the tile she placed her hands on the younger girl's shoulders and moved her over towards the sink. Turning on the faucet she leaned on her slightly and guided her hands until they were under the water. "Blood is a messy thing isn't it?

Brooke said nothing as she closed her eyes. She hated the sight of blood. It made her stomach feel gross, and legs feel weak. Grabbing onto the sink with her other hand, she held herself up while her teacher dig through her cabinets.

"For such a clean freak, you really hid the first aid kit didn't you?" Not even tippy toeing the blonde woman reached to the top shelf and pulled out bandages with disinfectant. Putting them down she turned off the faucet and walked Brooke to the dining table where she set her down and pulled a chair up closely to her. She sprayed the disinfectant quickly as to not hurt her but the girl didn't even wince. She smiled at that fact as she shuffled through the band aids.

"I want the orange one."

Looking up and meeting the girls eyes Mrs. Davidson nodded. "What do you think of your dad taking that job?"

"I think I'll be very hungry in the mornings."

Taking her hand and placing the band aid on smoothly she let her manicured nails linger as the door swung open with the two men laughing.

"Oh Brooke I have the most wonderful news!" Stopping her father looked at her hand. "Are you alright?"

She nodded faking a smile, "I'm really excited for you Dad."

"Even better Jerry's wife here agreed to come check on you and take care of you while I'm gone."

Furrowing her brows and staring at her father Brooke opened her mouth trying to find the right words, "I'm 18 dad, I'll be ok."

"She's going to be around, so I won't be such a worried mess Brooke, this is more for me than for you."

Agreeing to what already seemed to be agreed on she smiled "I'm really happy for you Dad." Getting up and hugging him loosely Brooke's eyes met Mrs. Davidson's. Her blue eyes twinkled as she crossed her legs and winked with a devious grin.
