Buttoning her suit jacket Sophie Anderson surveyed the crowd before closing the large velvet curtains and walking back to Brooke. She spoke softly to an older man who sat on the city council.
He showed his empathy and grief and she shared her cute wide smile. Who wouldn't fall in love with her? He certainly did. Telling jokes and throwing his hands around with wild stories.
"You look nervous Sophie!" The man joked and curled up the paper in his hand. "You've never spoke in front of a crowd before have you?"
She laughed with him, "No sadly I have not."
"You'll do great." He scratched his chin where his neatly combed beard was. "It's not a tough crowd, just locals wanting their voice to be heard. This debate will really help them know where you stand ok issues they care about."
Brooke placed her hand on the taller man's arm. "You have been so much help, thank you."
Tilting his large white cowboy hat, he let his accent get stronger. "The pleaser is mine little lady."
Brooke laughed kindly and admired the feather stuck safely in the hats band. She tried her best not to cringe or make a disgusted face as he started talking again about his last hunting trip.
Smiling Sophie couldn't believe how lucky she was, Brooke was going to win this election for her by just being her. She was good at listening, and pretending to care. She had the face anyone could trust, and that girl was getting better and better every day at charming people.
She was just a girl growing wings.
Seeing her loves eyes shift behind her Sophie turned to look at her father Ian with his team. They went over some papers and talked with one another never looking up.
"I better go to find my seat." Brooke placed a soft peck on her girlfriends cheek and looked her in her eyes. "I love you no matter what ok?"
Those words calmed her, the blonde nodded and hugged the girl before she watched her walk out and onto the main floor where the rest of the audience was. Brooke flipped the bottom of her dress up before sitting down next to Kellie who fiddled with her notepad and recorder.
Finally walking over the brunette man tightened his tie and held his hand out. "Mrs. Davidson."
Returning the favor and shaking his hand the blonde squinted her eyes slightly, "It's Anderson, but how are you?"
He faked a smile, "Hanging in there."
They both stood next to each other waiting for the curtain to open. Neither wanting to say what they were thinking.
"How's Brooke?"
"You should ask her."
He gave a side eye and clasped his hands together. "I picked up Jerry's ashes this morning."
"How heroic of you."
"You don't have to be such a bitch. You were nothing but horrible to him."
Turning to look him dead in the eye she almost couldn't believe what she heard. "He shot your own daughter. Made her sit in a hospital room for weeks, just because she answered the door. That poor beautiful girl laid in a hospital bed hooked up to machines and was rugged up because the pain would have been too excruciating." She shook her head knowing her words weren't effecting him. "You almost killed your own daughter."
He now turned his body. "She almost killed herself." He became angry and started spitting with his words, "She chooses to fuck you so she deserved whatever came her way! I got him to run off and leave his old life behind, so I could run for Mayor. He was gone." Ian took another step forward and pointed at her, "then you had to go fuck my daughter."
"So what? You sent your dog to kill us?"
"You're God Damn right I did." His eyes bulged and his veins popped out of his neck. His hatred for the woman grew worse and worse as she looked at him with intent curious eyes. "Too bad he didn't kill you, though, or I would have my family and my job secured."
To know Brooke's angelic like self came from a man as hateful as him confused the blonde, she only nodded and turned back to the front the stage where she smiled sweetly.
The audience silent from what they heard. Only a few camera shutters went off as Ian realized the curtain had opened at some point in his monologue.
Suddenly silence wasn't even an option as Questions were raised and people stood up in their seats ready to throw their worst at the man who admitted his own guilt.
The two police men present to keep the piece marched up to the stage and threw the shocked man against the dark stained podium.
He didn't even say a word. He knew of his own defeat.
"Ian Williams you are under the arrest for the attempted murder of Sophie Davidson and Brooke Williams Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future-"
As the two men in uniform led him through the middle of the room people flashed pictures and yelled out words that were almost blurred. He didn't even look over at his daughter who silently stood watching him being taken away. The older woman wanted to run over to Brooke and hold her close. Tell her sorry for how it came out, but she wasn't given the chance.
As the doors closed and the focus on him was non-existent Sophie realized they looked up at her. Luckily her lack of words was filled in by a belly laugh.
"I don't see a need for a debate anymore." The bearded man finally spoke up patting Sophie's shoulder. "There will not be any further questions, and there will be a public conference later in the week for your new Mayor to answer all of your concerns."
Being led off the stage Sophie ignored the loud noises from questioning people as she grabbed Brooke's hand. She tightened her grip as they were escorted out of the building and brought to their car.
"Did I just Become mayor?" The blonde whispered getting into the drivers seat.
Buckling her seat belt Brooke raised an eyebrow, "Did my dad just get arrested?"
