Brooke was growing impatient as she started throwing her books out of her locker. She had gone over it again and again in her mind but she couldn't retrace the steps.
"Maybe you just misplaced it B."
Shaking her head, she decided it was best to ignore her friends words in order to not say anything too snarky. Blowing a loose strand of hair out of her face, she lowered her head and looked at the floor. She always put her journal in the same spot. What was she going to do with the upcoming bills? She had no way to handle the expenses properly. Her father trusted her enough to take care of the money and out it in the right spot so that they would never be in too much trouble but she couldn't possibly do that now.
"What's so important in that book anyways?" Lea asked kneeling down and flipping through the crisp textbook pages.
"Important stuff."
Casey and Lea looked at each other with raised eyebrows, "B is everything alright?" Casey whispered kneeling down as well.
"It's fine. I'm fine." She snapped putting her stuff back after coming up empty handed.
"It doesn't seem like it girl, for the last few days you haven't been yourself."
"We just want to make sure you're OK. We aren't trying to push ourselves into your life amor." Lea added leaning her back against the other lockers. When her friend didn't reply she sighed and watched her, try to line her books up perfectly straight. When they refused to comply, she took all the books out again and started putting them back one by one trying to get them how she wanted. Lea had seen people on TV talk about having problems with OCD. They couldn't shake hands because they were afraid of germs, but Brooke wasn't like those fun TV shows. She could get somewhat scary with her perfectionist nature. Lea knew it wasn't healthy for her, but she had no idea where to even start helping her.
Turning away so she wouldn't have to watch Brooke attempt to put her locker back in order for a third time she looked down the hall where Mrs. Davidson stared through the office glass door. Her long art like figure stood still behind her dark black suit as her eyes narrowed. It was truly a frightening sight to see for someone like Lea. It was true that she liked Brooke but how were you supposed to win a girl over when a woman like Mrs. Davidson had her eyes on the same prize. Looking down she closed her eyes hoping she would be gone when she looked back up.
Mrs. Davidson, of course, did not move away from the window. She watched Brooke struggle and she sighed slightly. She wanted to focus on getting rid of Lea, but she couldn't with the way Brooke was acting. She had been selfish and brought this girl whom she wanted so badly to turn her back on her and cause more anxiety in her life. Mrs. Davidson had watched the way she counted her steps everywhere, the way she would tear her notes apart if there was one mistake, the way she closed her locker three times just to make sure it was locked. She was suffering, and it was because of the pressure.
If she had just taken her time like she originally planned Brooke would have been able to handle the changes but it came to fast and made her crawl back into her own mind filled with anxiety.
How would could she fix it, though?
Crossing her arms, she left the office and went to the edge of the hall where the three girls disappeared in the other end.
"Watch out Sophie! Beautiful arrangements coming through!"
Turning and raising her eyebrows at her boss waving in a bunch of men holding flowers the blonde rubbed her chin in thought, "These are beautiful flowers Mr. Stevenson. What are they for?" Stopping the last person she took the box of flowers and observed them.
"The dance is only a few days away! I'm falling behind schedule!" He yelled signing the receipt."Polley show them where to put the Lilies in the conference room."
Smiling slightly Mrs. Davidson put the cover back over the box and turned, "I would love to help, if you'd let me."
Surprised the man squinted his eyes, "I don't know what's gotten into you lately but I love this new side of you."
Trying hard to look extra nice she turned back to the box of flowers, "I'll take these to the gym so you don't need to worry about them." Picking them up and carrying them into the hallway she stopped seeing Lea in front of her with crossed arms, "Fucking course." She mumbled rolling her eyes.
"What did you do?"
"What are you taking about?"
"She's hurting." Lea whispered crossing her arms. "Honestly I would be celebrating the fact you two haven't been weirdly close lately but I don't know how to help her."
Sighing Mrs. Davidson started walking again, "I've noticed, what is she doing with you?"
"You know how she's like a clean freak."
"OCD Lea."
"Ya, well she's been like ten times worse. It's kind of scaring me. And she came over to my house the other night and she barely slept."
Ignoring the thought of her sleeping with someone else Mrs. Davidson stopped as they entered the gym and pulled some money from her bra, "Get her to come to my house tonight and I'll help her."
Taking the cash slowly Lea shrugged, "What do you want me to say?"
"Figure it out." Mrs. Davidson answered opening the door and walking outside.
Looking at the money and stuffing it into her sweats pockets she started making her way back to class. She felt horrible for going behind Brooke's back and taking money but she didn't know what else to do. She was suffering and that woman, as horrible as she was, would probably be able to help her. Brooke obviously was affected by whatever happened between them so if she could just get them back to normal Brooke would go back to normal. She missed her smile. Even if she wasn't the one making her smile, she still wanted to see it.
Everything about Mrs. Davidson was better, though. She had money, beauty, and class. Lea couldn't remember a day she didn't see her looking her best and that's what Brooke deserved.
Glancing down at her mismatched sweats she wished her life was like Mrs. Davidson's, maybe then she could find someone like Brooke. In any case she would make sure her friend was happy no matter how much she had to go behind her back to do it.
