The rain had started pouring only a day ago, but it had become a constant downpour that their town wasn't used too. The roads were flooding from inadequate drainage and the occasional hail storm was causing damage to roofs and cars.
Brooke was used to the rain. It reminded her of her old apartment In Washington. It would rain for hours, so she would open the windows and listen. Everything felt better in those moments.
The rain in Texas, however, had a different smell. It was such a distinct smell that she fell in love with. It was like a perfume made from the earth.
Looking out of the window, she had cracked open Brooke finished drying the dishes and sat them aside to be put up. Even though it was pitch black outside she imagined what the rain looked like as it fell from the heavens and imagined how pretty the garden was going to look after.
"You're not going home in this are you?"
Drying her hands the younger girl looked over at the blonde woman who wore her suit around her house like a queen would wear a silk dress. Even at almost midnight Mrs. Davidson stood with such power. The martini she cooked up herself only Enhanced her image. "I don't want to impose."
"It's not like you have school tomorrow."
Remembering that she in fact technically graduated Brooke folded the hand towel slowly and nodded. "When will you leave in the morning?"
"Around 7:00 I'll put in my two-weeks notice."
Folding her arms to warm herself from the breeze that drifted through the window the young girl stared intently at her lover. The giant house that she had become used to separated them with an island in the middle.
"Why don't you go take a nice long bath? Stepping forward until she was standing directly in front of her Mrs. Davidson smirked and looked down at her with her laugh lines in full view. "I love you."
Closing her eyes when the older woman's hand tucked her hair behind her ear Brooke smiled slightly. "You won't mind me borrowing some clothes?"
"I would mind."
She laughed not knowing if she was joking, "Well what do I wear?"
Raising one eyebrow Mrs. Davidson looked her up and down, "Take your time but when I come in that room you better be in bed waiting for me."Running her hand over her face and down her stomach, she stopped at her pants buckle and grabbed it roughly pulling her forward. Their lips now inches apart as Mrs. Davidson almost growled in pleasure. "I'm taking you tonight."
"Martinis make you confident."
Narrowing her eyes at the short girl the blonde tried thinking of what else to say. It didn't matter how hard she tried Brooke just couldn't be intimidated anymore. "I'll put up the dishes."
Brooke smiled and hugged her girlfriend. Their bodies fit so well into one another. She did realize in that moment that rain wasn't comforting anymore, Mrs. Davidson was comforting. Her hugs were like being wrapped in hundreds of bullet proof blankets.
Kissing the top of her head and pushing her away Mrs. Davidson watched the girl walk to her bedroom before turning to the window. She clicked the locks off and was about to push it down when something caught her eye.
The rain was subsiding for a minute and Mrs. Davidson smiled at the sight.
Lea dug with a shovel trying her best to lift the mud out of the hole. A tree that had been planted she laid to the side and was already a couple of feet deep.
She knew in her heart it was weird to have a new tree planted soon after someone disappeared and she wanted to be the one to expose Sophie Davidson.
Throwing the shovel to the side Lea tried catching her breathe as she examined her work.
She found nothing. This was the only lead she had bu-
Feeling a sharp pain on the back of her head Lea fell into the hole she dug and cried in pain. Getting up slowly she tried keeping the rain out of her eyes as she looked up to see what happened.
Sophie Davidson stood leaning against the shovel with an umbrella in her right hand. Her suit had become wet slightly, but she only looked down at the girl on her knees with an emotionless face.
"You hit me!" Lea rubbed her head and tried wiping some mud off of herself. She slipped slightly falling back down.
"Why are you on my property digging yourself a grave?"
"I know you killed your husband bitch! I'm going to find his body and expose you."
Raising her eyebrows at her confidence Mrs. Davidson looked around at the darkness before glancing back down at the struggling girl. "Why would I put him under my tree? I don't want bugs in the roots."
"Where is he?" Lea yelled finally standing up.
Rolling her eyes, the blonde moved the shovel around to keep herself steady, "I didn't kill the fucker. If I wanted to kill him, I would do it when he was out of town."
"You think I'm going to believe any bullshit that comes out of your mouth?"
"I've never lied to you." She looked at her watch making sure she still had time. "Bribed, threatened, and been a bitch but never lied."
Watching the water accumulate at the bottom of her feet Lea sighed, "Then what happened to him?"
"He was definitely killed."
Waiting for to continue Lea came to the side of the hole and looked up at her. "I really don't know what to think about you lady."
"Listen." Mrs. Davidson bent down to be closer to her. "I know I'm not perfect. I am the exact opposite. I just have a pretty face and enough time to read. But I love Brooke and everything I do it for her. It may result in bad situations, but I'm willing to do anything for her."
Shaking her head Lea tried wrapping her head around her own thoughts. Finally, she looked up at the woman. "I still don't like you."
"Well I don't like you either."
"Then I guess we can come to an agreement."
Smiling Mrs. Davidson held her hand out. "What were you going to do if you found a body?"
Crawling out of the hole with the blondes help Lea sighed and stood up, "I don't know honestly."
Watching her shake off the mud Mrs. Davidson looked at her house.
"Don't you care about knowing what happened to him?"
"I do know what happened to him." Mrs. Davidson stared at the light from her bedroom window knowing Brooke was in there getting ready for bed. "I'm not ready to face it, though."
Lea watched the rain hit her old teachers umbrella and roll off the sides. Mrs. Davidson finally broke out of her trance and smiled, "I'll walk you to your car." Moving the umbrella over to cover both of them the blonde started walking with her in silence.
