Sitting in the chair as straight as she could Brooke watched everyone in the room come in through their snug living room and find Seats around the dinner table. Her father had invited a few important figures from town to enjoy a meal together for a reason Brooke couldn't think of. She didn't care about any of them and until he had left he didn't care either.

The good thing, however, was seeing Mrs. Davidson walk in shortly after her husband. He hung around to shake everyone's hand, but she smiled and made a straight line for the girl.

"So glad to could join us." Kellie stopped her and guided her to the table. "I sat you and Jerry right here."

"I'd rather not sit with him." The blonde stated tapping the bag in her hand. "We are getting a divorce."

"OH my." Covering her mouth, the young girl seemed to be over the top with her emotions. "I'm so sorry I didn't know."

Looking at the tacky make up on her face Mrs. Davidson smiled "Do you mind if I sit next to Brooke? We've bonded with her father being away."

Nodding Kellie eyed the woman up and down. She really felt small compared to the blonde. She was taller yes, but the way she held herself was much bigger than anyone else in the room. "Before you sit can you help me hand out the plates?" Kellie skipped around the dining room switching the name tiles.

Rolling her eyes, she followed her into the kitchen and started plating. She didn't want to be nice, but she decided against making a scene if only for Brooke's sake.

"You look uncomfortable sweetie."

Looking up at her dad Brooke straightened her silverware. "I don't understand why we are having this."

"I want to get into politics. This is how it happens."

"What about being a chef?" Pausing Brooke watched her dad's girlfriend set a plate down in front of him. "Why would you want to deal with politics in this town?"

Kellie Sat a plate down in front of Brooke and giggled sweetly. "Your dad has really become interested!"

Looking at the food, the brunette closed her eyes and started counting to ten. Everything was wrong. She didn't blame Kellie. She was young like herself yes, but she was trying in her own way. Her dad's girlfriend was even reasonable enough to make what made her comfortable on Wednesday nights.

Her father, however, was making everything worse slowly. He was the one person she thought she could count on to be reasonable with her odd requests, but now he was like an alien. He made faces at her use of scheduling and laughed at jokes he never thought were funny before.

Smelling someone familiar Brooke looked up and saw her teacher take the plate away from her and slide another in front of her that had every food separated and proportioned correctly. She must have prepared it special. It was the little things that reminded her who really cared.

"Brooke, you can come with Kellie and me to Austin."

Feeling her heart speed up she closed her eyes once more. There were too many people.

It was getting hot, and the noises were getting too loud.

"There are some great places to eat! There's that one taco stand that I think you would love."

She tried to focus on the soothing smell of her teachers perfume but even that wasn't helping as she felt her throat tighten.

Sitting down next to the girl Mrs. Davidson sighed knowing she was becoming overwhelmed. She wouldn't open her eyes and if she the tears slowly built in her corners.

"I don't want to go to Austin." She whispered picking up her fork.

"And there is also this theater on sixth street that is interactive!"

Taking her hand Mrs. Davidson pulled her lover up. "We will be right back."

No one even noticed or stopped talking long enough to see the two girls slip away upstairs. Closing the door behind them the blonde stood behind Brooke who was like a wall: motionless, cold, and hard. "You're overwhelmed baby."

Breathing heavy Brooke felt her chest tighten and her throat swell slightly. She felt like she couldn't breathe while she was floating in the air. "I-" She tried speaking, but nothing came out but tears. She felt disconnected and lonely all of a sudden. Like she was the only one of the earth that felt pain. She did feel arms wrap around her, however, but the rest she couldn't connect. She imagined this is what being a drift in space felt like. Utter terror and loneliness. Even though she felt someone next to her, she felt miles away from that touch. How could she explain what was wrong if she herself didn't even know?

Brooke Sat and cried in Mrs. Davidson's lap without thinking about the time. She didn't know how long she had been soaking her teachers expensive shirt with her tears but after a while she opened her swollen eyes. She heard herself sob and she saw the room that had become a mess. How did it get so messy? She had cleaned it spotless before the party.

Mrs. Davidson sighed after struggling to calm her down and now held onto her firmly. She didn't give any chance for her to wiggle away. It took all her strength and persuasion to calm her down to this level. Things fell and we're pushed away when the girl cried out in almost an u human way. Her emotions were so raw and SO human that she was uncontrollable. All her lover could do was use her strength against her.

She rocked slowly and sang softly.

Their bodies intertwined on the messed-up bed.

Brooke blinked a few times and burrowed her face in the woman's neck. "What happened?"

"You had a panic attack. You're ok now."She answered staring at the broken lamp on the ground. She was trying to be careful with her words.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry."

Silence filled the room and all Brooke could think about was the fly caught in her window. It buzzed obnoxious trying to find its way back out but was tiring itself in the process.

"How do you feel?"

Nodding as a response Brooke tried ignoring the laughing downstairs. "I'm sorry."

"Stop apologizing baby." Sitting her up slightly the blonde sighed seeing the girls broken face. She knew everything building up in her, but tonight must have been the last straw. Her heart broke for her puffy faced lover. It was as her body couldn't take anymore so she just exploded. She could see her eyes scan the dirty room, so she pulled her back to her. "You don't have to go with your father. I'll buy you an apartment, and you can live there until you decide what you want to do next."

"Thank you for being here." Looking up she smiled at her teacher. "You know me better than I know myself sometimes."

Kissing each other softly both girls jumped seeing the door swing open and Jerry standing there with a balled up fist.

Standing up and getting in front of Brooke the blonde looked at the man with fire in her eyes. She knew this would happen. In her mind she wanted to prepare for it, but not now. Not here.

He smiled looking past her. "I think someone has mommy issues." He looked up at his wife, "and someone else has commitment issues."
