Erasing her paper for the third time Brooke bit her lip in concentration. She knew everything about this topic. Calclus came easily for her but she couldn't get it right. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't focus.
"And I'll get a paycheck like that every month B."
Closing her eyes and rubbing her temples Brooke tried ignoring her friends words. She was of course happy, for her, but she didn't want to think about that right now. All she did was brag about her money.
"Since it's a four year contact I won't have to do nothing but show up." Lea licked her fingers from her spicy chips and smiled. "I'm going to get a beautiful apartment, and you can come stay with me while you go to college."
Not looking up Brooke raised an eyebrow. "You want me to go to college in California?"
"Ya, there's like good schools there." She took another bite."What are you going for?"
Throwing her pencil down the brunette tried hiding her irritation. "I don't know."
"You'll figure it out no worries!" She scrolled through her phone happily liking picture after picture.
Watching her for a few seconds, she realized how mad she was at Lea. Not because she left, not because she was successful, but because she didn't understand how hurt she was. She knew what was wrong, but it made her happier. "Lea I don't want to go to the dance."
"OH B, your just anxious I'll be right there with you."
Letting her leg bounce up and down Brooke rubbed her hands on her jeans and looked around the library. It was just them in there until the door swung open and a police officer walked in. He took off his hat and smiled at the librarian before making his way over to where Brooke and Lea sat.
"Brooke?" He smiled sweetly, "I'm detective Glenn."
Getting up she nodded and shook the balding man's hand.
"Sorry to bother you at school, but I would like to ask you a couple of questions about Jerry Davidson." Getting out his pen and paper, he looked up at the confused face. "He's been missing since Wednesday."
Taken back the young girl opened her mouth to say something but decided it against it.
"His wife Sophie Davidson said they were at your house Wednesday evening for a dinner."
Brooke nodded.
"What time would you say they left?"
"I'm not sure, I was upstairs."
"Mrs. Davidson was up there with also correct?"
Tightening her jaw Brooke looked at Lea nervously who just took another bite of her chips and shrugged. Brooke didn't know what to do. Even if Mrs. Davidson chooses not to continue their relationship, she didn't want to ruin her. She did still have feelings for her.
Clearing her throat Brooke furrowed her brows seeing a person sitting in the corner of the library reading a magazine. When the woman put it down slightly, Brooke saw Mrs. Davidson smile at her slightly and wink. Of course she was there. She was almost like an illusion.
"Yes she was with me."
"Why?"
Glancing over at her again Mrs. Davidson nodded as to say everything was ok.
"I was having a panic attack and she helped me out. So I'm not sure when he came in and threatened her."
Detective Glenn looked up from his notepad, "threatening."
Wrapping her arms behind her back Brooke smiled and nodded.
"What kind of threats?"
Brooke didn't know where all this came from, but she continued anyways. "I'm not sure I wasn't really all there, but if it was anything like last time it was probably about the divorce she wanted and he didn't. He would get very heated."
"Did it ever get physical?"
Looking over at the blonde Brooke nodded, "Yes. He would be drunk most of the time."
The blonde was pleasently surprised. She dropped her magazine down more and tried not to look too longingly. She never imagined Brooke being able to lie. She did it so well.
"You and Mrs. Davidson are close?"
Smiling Brooke nodded."When my dad went with Mr. Davidson to go work on the campaign He left her to come check up on me. I haven't spoken to her since Wednesday, though."
Nodding he wrote down her words.
"Was he like murdered?" Lea interjected.
The man beamed at her warmly. "We are looking at all areas, but most likely he skipped town. There's no need to worry. He's an adult who went missing. It happens all the time and especially with men of his level of stress."Shoving his pen back into his pocket he put his hat back on and shook Brooke's hand. He looked at Lea's chip covered fingers and decided against saying goodbye to her. "Have a good day ladies."
Watching him walk away Brooke noticed Mrs. Davidson was gone. She must have slipped out when no one was looking. Like a cat that was suddenly bored.
"I saw the bruise on her face yesterday." Lea commented.
Still staring at the empty seat Brooke tried putting all the pieces together. If he did skip down why would he do that? He was working so hard to keep her former lover.
Picking up her backpack and setting her papers back in neatly the brunette furrowed her brows seeing a box stuffed away at the bottom.
"He probably sucker punched her like she deserved."
Shaking her head Brooke kept the box hidden away but opened it quickly trying not to let Lea see. "Abuse isn't funny Lea."
Realizing she shouldn't have said that she put her chips away. "Whatever, I'll pick you up tonight for the dance. I'll see you later B."
Nodding Brooke watched her leave the room and looked back at the box nervously. Taking out the wrapping she gasped slightly seeing a large diamond necklace that reflected the florescent lights. Could it be from Mrs. Davidson? Or was it a gift from Lea since she was so adamant about her new money? Either way it was too beautiful for her.
Wrapping it back up and zipping her back pack she held her head and tried to shake away a small headache.
She had no idea what was going on. She felt like all of this revolved around her yet she didn't even know the plot of her own life.
