Lea squeezed the small amount of clay in her hand and glanced up at her friend kneel down to be as precise as possible while putting details in her clay artwork. It could be the least important thing in the world and Brooke would always put 100% effort into making it perfect. Looking back down Lea tried ignoring the way her eyebrows shaped downwards while concentrating. Before yesterday it was always her favorite thing to look at, but now she didn't want to look at Brooke. She was furious with her.
"I swear to God if I get anymore clay under my nails I'm going to scream." Casey commented sitting back down in her chair. Looking at her simple ash tray, she sighed. "What's your problem Lea? You've been in a mood all day."
Looking at the fluffy haired girl Lea noticed Brooke glance up at her for a second before going back to sculpting. "Nothing, in particular, just annoyed."
"Well I may have something to cheer you up." Casey rummaged through her backpack before pulling out her sparkly notebook. "He asked me to the dance."
Lea rolled her eyes and looked at the messy handwriting. "Cute."
Casey quintet her eyes, "What's your problem? You mad you haven't been asked? You and Brooke can go together."
"I'm not a big dancer." Brooke commented Wiping her tools off. "I'd love to go with you, though."
Flatting out her small piece of clay Lea shook her head, "You mean not a big dancer with anyone other than that blonde bitch."
Surprised Brooke looked up from her project. "I feel like your upset."
"Of course I'm Fucking upset. You were Fucking the bitch of the town who happens to be married and you don't even seem upset about it. Who even are you anymore?" Lea whispered angrily. Looking around making sure no one heard her she sighed and wiped her hand off. "I thought you were different."
Casey cleared her throat and looked over at her brunette friend who sat motionless, "Care to explain?"
"Not particularly."
Shaking her head Casey tried figuring out what to say. "We told you to be careful B. She's not a good person. She will hurt you! And now I'm finding out you've been..."Taking a deep breath Casey tried ignoring their teacher scream at a kid in the back for leaving an air bubble in their clay. "What are you thinking B?"
Brooke straightened her area and made sure all of it was laid out perfectly. She didn't understand why they were mad at her. Mrs. Davidson was kind and seemed to really want to be with her, but was she wrong for doing it? She was married. And she was a person of authority in her life. "I don't know." She whispered looking between her friends. "I've never done anything like this before."
"Was it a one-time thing?" Lea asked searching Brooke's eyes for an honest answer.
Observing her clay house, the girl shrugged, "She wants us to be together."
Casey and Lea looked at each other.
"She asked, and I said I would think about it."
"B, tell us what your thinking."
For once Brooke's mind went blank. She didn't know what she was thinking. She didn't know what to do. She always knew what to do.
"You have to tell her no." Lea reached over and took her friends hand into her own. "You've seen the way she treats other people. If she treats her husband like he doesn't matter what makes you think she won't do the same to you when shes done with you?"
Feeling her heartbeat speed up Brooke closed her eyes and nodded. Her friends were right. "I was going to tell her yes, but I didn't think about that."
Casey rubbed Brooke's back. "Think about your dad. What would he say if he found out what you've been doing?"
Suddenly she felt guilty. Her father would never trust her again. Even thinking about her father being upset at her or being disappointed made her want to absolutely cry, but at the Same time she didn't want to let down Mrs. Davidson either. She wasn't just some blonde monster to her. She felt safe with her and loved. Sure, Brooke realized she didn't know much about her but at the same time she felt it didn't matter because they never judged each other. Was it such a bad thing to feel comfortable with someone?
Hearing the bell ring the three girls Sat motionless while everyone around them jumped up and gathered their stuff.
"I don't know what to do." Brooke whispered.
Rolling their eyes, the two girls got up and grabbed their stuff.
"We love you B, but we can't be there to watch you self-sabotage yourself like that." Casey commented walking to the door. "Do whatever you want."
Watching them walk away Brooke sighed. It didn't matter. Her mother left because she didn't want to be a family woman, her dad left to work on his career, her friends left, and the woman she really liked was probably going to leave too.
Wiping a tear away from her eye Brooke took a deep breathe and got up from her spot scooting her chair in.
"Are you alright?"
Nodding Brooke smiled at her art teacher. "Yes I think so." Slipping her bag on her shoulders and picking up her piece of art she worked so hard on. She handed it over to the older woman. "Do you think it's possible to be too careful?"
"Well I am an Art teacher, so I would have to say yes."
Nodding Brooke started walking to the door.
"Not making a decision is still a decision you know." The older Grey woman paused and smiled at the young girl, "I know you are going through something right now but just know you are very capable of knowing what's best for you."
"Thank you." Brooke whispered. Sighing she walked down the hallway fully aware that she would probably be late to her next class. What had she become? She hated to be late to class, and she knew she would become anxious later for it but right now she just felt lost and numb.
Wiping her eyes again Brooke gasped feeling her body being pulled backwards. Turning her head Brooke looked up at Mrs. Davidson who slowly let her smile fall.
"Brooke what's wrong?"
Looking down she felt everything she tried to hide flow out of her.
Grabbing her hand and looking around Mrs. Davidson led them outside to a corner of the school where no one could see them. "Hey, look at me." Bending slightly she raised the head girls to look at her through her big swollen hazel eyes. "Baby what's wrong."
"No." Hugging the older woman Brooke cried loudly letting her tears run down her face and onto Mrs. Davidson's white blouse.
Shushing her, she wiped her tears away. "What do you mean Brooke? No to what?"
"My answer is no."
Pausing the taller woman closed her eyes, "I don't understand baby."
Stepping back and Wiping her own tears away Brooke tried to stand up straighter. "Casey and Lea know about what happened, and they think I should say no. And I think I should say no."
Holding her mouth open slightly she tried to keep her cool, "then why are you crying?"Grabbing her hands softly and pulling her towards her Mrs. Davidson brushed her hair back."If you are hurting, this bad why are you saying no?"
Looking at their hands intertwined Brooke shrugged, "You're married, your my teacher, what if my dad found out, what if literally anyone else found out."
"But you love me."
"I-"
Hugging her again the blonde shook her head. "It's ok, you shouldn't be this stressed over something that should be so easy." Sitting down on the freshly mowed grass, she stretched out her legs and held the girl close to her. "We will figure it out ok?"
Feeling her nod the blonde clenched her jaw. Lea and Casey wouldn't be a problem anymore. That she knew for certain.
